A new pirate survival game, Windrose, launched a playable demo on Steam in mid-February, and it immediately resonated with the PC gaming community. Thanks to some extra help from streamers who played the demo, Windrose has become one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. Of course, while that momentum is good for the demo of Windrose, players are wondering when its release date is so they can experience the full game.

What is the release date for Windrose?
As soon as most players experienced the Windrose demo, they asked when the early access version of the game would be coming out. Traditionally, when a game launches a demo on Steam, the developers plan to launch it into early access prior to releasing the full version. This gives the developers even more time to add content, fix bugs, and listen to community feedback to make the full release the best it can be.
Luckily for fans of Windrose, the developers are seemingly planning to skip this early access period and instead launch the full game as soon as it’s ready. The developers at Windrose Crew confirmed this during their panel at IGN Fan Fest, saying that they’re cooking in the background to get ready for the full launch.
Unfortunately, this means that the developers haven’t set a concrete release date for Windrose just yet. The devs stated that: “Guys, I know many of you hoped for the release date reveal today [at IGN Fan Fest], and we understand your passion. Trust me, we are so eager to lock in the date and announce it to you as well, but now is not the time to do it.”
While this might be disappointing to newfound fans of the game, the Windrose Crew devs likely didn’t expect this level of interest in Windrose so suddenly. They had likely planned for the demo to drum up some interest, and then they would announce the release date later down the line. However, with so many players now asking for a release date, that could speed up the developer’s timeline.
Still, Windrose Crew clearly wants the game to feature as much content and as few issues as possible, so a release date shouldn’t be expected for at least a few months. Hopefully, we hear about a release window later in 2026, but at this point, any guesses for a launch timeline would be severely premature.
