Destiny 3 will not be happening, as it seems.

With the recent layoffs at Bungie, it was also reported that a Destiny 3 was in early development but canceled due to financial issues at the company. The game was rumored to be codenamed "Payback," and seems to not be happening now.

But was Destiny 3 actually ever in development? Or is this just speculation thrown around on the internet?

Was Destiny 3 canceled? Or was the game never in development?

Recent reports stated that Destiny 3, under the codename Payback, was canceled early on in development. Reports also said that Destiny 2 will no longer be putting out expansions, but instead release "lighter and smaller" content packs.

While Destiny 2 is still going to get content, many are upset about the size of the content being provided to them. But what about Destiny 3? With the rumors that the game was canceled, many fans are astronomically upset.

Well, one insider claims that the game was never even in development.

Destiny 3 may have never been in development

Jason Schreier, a reporter for Bloomberg, posted earlier today (August 1, 2024) about how Destiny 3 was never even in development, due to insider information he had received.

"Just to clear up some rumors floating around, Destiny 3 was not canceled because it was never in development," said Schreier on Twitter. "Bungie did some very early work on a spinoff project called Payback, but they canceled that a while ago."

This information has not been fully confirmed, but it seems to be the likely answer to all the rumors starting online.

Will there ever be another Destiny?

Right now, it seems like the future of the Destiny franchise is going down the drain, as a Destiny 3 seems extremely unlikely. With Bungie's future already being fickle, many are not hopeful for another Destiny title.

Sadly, it would seem with the lack of content coming to Destiny 2, that there is not much of a future for the franchise.
