Pokémon Scarlet & Violet marks an “evolutionary step” for the mainline series of Pokémon games.

The Pokémon Company have announced a brand new entry in the mainline Pokémon games; Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet. the newest entries in the franchise will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch in Fall 2022.

What we know so far about Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet

The ninth generation of games will showcase an "evolutionary step" in the mainline Pokémon series. In this new yet-to-be-named region, which is loosely based off of Spain, will give new and longtime fans of the franchise a chance to "explore freely in a richly expressed open-world." A first in the mainline series of games.

Pokémon developers Game Freak have explored the notion of an open-world Pokémon game a few times in the past few years; with their most recent attempt coming in the form of Pokémon Legends: Arceus. Per the announcement on the Pokémon website, the games will be releasing on the Nintendo Switch in Fall 2022.

Generation IX starters revealed

Pokémon fans were also treated to a first-look at the new starter Pokémon for Generation IX. Like in each previous entry in the series, Scarlet & Violet will give players the choice of three Pokémon with whom they will begin their journey with.

For Generation IX players will be able to choose between the "capracious, attention seeking Grass-Cat Pokémon" Sprigatito. The fire-type Fuecoco, described as a "laid-back Fire croc that does things at its' own pace." And finally the "earnest and tidy Duck Pokémon" Quaxly.
