Blackwood Mountain is back and better than ever.
Sony has confirmed at its 2024 State of Play that Until Dawn is receiving a remaster. The game will release in 2025 and will be available on both PlayStation and PC. All the twists and turns of Blackwood Mountain will now be in high res!
The news comes shortly after an Until Dawn movie announcement last month.
What's new in the Until Dawn remaster
According to the PlayStation blog, the remaster will feature enhanced audio, a third-person camera, a new score by Mark Korven, and “more emotional depth”. It seems that the Until Dawn remaster intends on recreating the game exactly as it was, with a few tweaks and expansions.

Unreal Engine and new animations
The entire game has been recreated in Unreal Engine 5, which we can already tell from the trailer has greatly improved the visuals of the almost decade old game. Iconic scenes from the game, like the Saw trap inspired room, the dark and snowy woods, and the absolutely gigantic bathtub all make an HD appearance. The game also promises “improved animations” to upgrade the original game’s characters.
The blog states that, “You can now look behind the curtain of the original game, exploring enhanced and new locations with new interactions and collectables.” Additionally, the blog mentioned that the remaster will “expand upon unexplored emotional parts of the story”.
It’s safe to assume that the remaster of Until Dawn will feature more supplemental material, including expanded locations and new character interactions. However, it seems that the main story and decisions you make along the way will stay the same. Hopefully they don’t change Emily’s iconic personality whatsoever. 4.0 GPA, b*tch!
With the upgraded animations, hopefully the Until Dawn remaster will bring even more depth to the complicated relationships of the original game.
A new score
Mark Korven will be composing the remaster’s new score. His resume includes major horror movies The Witch, The Lighthouse, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, The Black Phone, and Night Swim.
On PC for the first time ever
For those lacking a PlayStation, the PC port of Until Dawn may be the most exciting part of this announcement. PlayStation likes to keep their exclusives, well… exclusive. There’s been no confirmation on if the new remaster of Until Dawn will come out on PC and PlayStation at the same time. We’ll just have to hope that Sony has mercy on the console-less gamers of the world and doesn’t delay a PC release.
