Upon seeing a leaked version of the GTA 6 trailer floating around the internet, Rockstar Games made the decision to release the official one.
Rockstar Games finally broke their silence on Grand Theft Auto VI in November. They followed that up with confirmation of the game's first trailer releasing in December. That trailer has been leaked, and in response to it, Rockstar has put out the official GTA 6 trailer early.
GTA 6 trailer leaks, leading to Rockstar Games officially showcasing it a day early
Rockstar originally planned to release the GTA 6 trailer on December 5 at 9 a.m. EST. That saw tens-of-thousands of individuals waiting in the YouTube premier lobby with 20+ hours to go. Little did they know, they wouldn't have to wait until the next day.
On December 4, the entire 90-second GTA 6 trailer was leaked with low quality and a watermark of BUY $BTC. At the time, the community didn't know if it was the real thing, but the excitement and anticipation of a new Grand Theft Auto made them believe.
Then a short time later, Rockstar Games confirmed it is the long-awaited GTA 6 trailer. In response to it leaking, they canceled the YouTube premier and made the trailer watchable for everyone immediately.
The trailer shows only one named character, a woman named Lucia who starts the trailer in prison. It then showcases a variety of scenes with women dancing, alligators running wild, cars racing, and much more you'd come to expect from the GTA universe.
Where does GTA 6 take place?
The trailer confirms that Grand Theft Auto VI takes place in Vice City. A large sign with the letters "VICE" appears in the middle of it. The community speculated as much with the colors and imagery leading up to the reveal.
When does GTA 6 release?
There's no concrete release date at the end of the trailer, but a year is given. Rockstar Games has confirmed via the GTA 6 trailer that the game will release in 2025. At what point in 2025 is still yet to be announced.
