Rockstar Games has confirmed that a trailer for the long awaited Grand Theft Auto (GTA) 6 will finally debut this December. The news came from a short Rockstar Newswire announcement on November 8. This announcement comes a full decade after the release of Grand Theft Auto 5, creating a frenzy of anticipation.
What has been officially announced?
The GTA 6 trailer, according to Rockstar, will be released on the 25th anniversary of Rockstar Games. No other information was released about the upcoming game or even a specific date for the trailer. The only information stated by the studio was, “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.”
What will GTA 6 be about?
Fans have been looking forward to the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto series since GTA V debuted in September 2013. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any official information to hint towards what the game will be about. The last official news fans had about GTA 6, before the trailer annoucement, was all the way back in February of 2022. In another Rockstar Newswire, the studio stated that, “we are pleased to confirm that active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.”
Additionally, a significant amount of leaks have occurred during the next installments development. In fact, one of the biggest leaks in video game history took place in September of 2022. A 3GB file with 90 videos of pre-alpha footage from GTA 6 was posted on a GTA forum. These leaks were later confirmed to be real by prominent gaming journalists.
Leaks confirmed a few major aspects about the next game. These include a female protagonist and that the game will take place in Vice City. Additionally, leaked gameplay also showed the player switching between characters. This would work similarly to the character switching in GTA 5.
When will we get more news about GTA 6?
According to the Rockstar Newswire announcement, the official GTA 6 trailer will come sometime in December 2023. One likely possibility for the trailer debut is during The Game Awards, which take place on December 7. This hasn’t been confirmed, but it seems likely considering that other major games have also been announced during The Game Awards, like Death Stranding 2 in 2022, Alan Wake II in 2021, and an untitled Mass Effect game in 2020.
