After backlash over its $79.99 price, Outer Worlds 2 is now $69.99. Xbox and Obsidian responded quickly, issuing refunds and moving the release to Oct 29.
The reveal back in June, that Outer Worlds 2 would cost $79.99, went down so poorly that the developers Obsidian Entertainment have now dropped the price and issued refunds for existing pre-orders.
Pitchforks back in your inventory, the $80 AAA game uprising has been pushed back, at least for now.
Outer Worlds 2 price reduced to $69.99
Outer Worlds 2 will now cost $69.99, a 12% drop from the original price. The price drop is part of a decision by Xbox to walkback their decision to increase prices. Prior to this change, Outer Worlds 2 would have been the first Xbox-published game to carry such a heavy price tag.
This is excellent news for gamers, who are likely secretly hoping that the $80 for Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 will remain an anomaly, and not the start of a industry trend.
"Any $80 game that isn’t 100+ hours minimum I ain’t buying. There comes a point where you’re going to need a lot more content to justify that price point," said one Reddit user in response the original $79.99 Outer Worlds 2 price tag. And they were not alone.

Fortunately Xbox have kept their finger on the pulse of the community and reacted accordingly.
"We’re focused on bringing players incredible worlds to explore, and will keep our full priced holiday releases, including The Outer Worlds 2, at $69.99 – in line with current market conditions," an Xbox spokesperson told IGN.
Meanwhile Obsidian Entertainment themselves put an Outer Worlds 2 spin on the news of the price drop:
"We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we have worked it out with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2. While this will not bring peace to the galaxy, or even your local colony, we assure you all that we are here to fight for all colonies in every way that we can."
