Switch 2 pre-orders are on ice for those of you in the United States.

Nintendo have announces that they are delaying pre-orders for the Switch 2 in the United States. This is a direct result of the sweeping introduction of Tarrifs by United States President Donald Trump earlier this week.

These Tarrifs, being brand new, have caused a huge amount of uncertainty in the global economy, and some of the Tarrifs look set to directly impact Switch 2 production.

The original date for US Switch 2 pre-orders was April 9. At the moment, this has been delayed indefinitely with fans left to wait for further updates. As of now, there has not been any change to the planned release date of June 5.

Switch 2 pre-orders delayed "indefinitely" in the US

“Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” Nintendo stated to gaming website Polygon. They added that “Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.”

This comes after a whirlwind day, with the United States announcement on Tarrifs coming just hours after the much awaited Switch 2 focused Nintendo Direct. The Tarrif announcements were a surprise to global markets, and have caused a seismic shock in the global economy.

Some of the countries impacted heavily by President Trump's actions are directly key to the manufacturing of the Switch 2. Both China and Vietnam are amongst the most highly tarrifed, which are countries producing the Switch 2.

Nintendo did move to anticipate issues between the US and China. Unfortunately for them, this involved creating additional production facilities in Vietnam, which was then also heavily impacted. As a result, Nintendo feel they need to assess the impact of these changes. It is not clear what this will eventually mean for the Switch 2 and when pre-orders will start.

Some fans were already complaining about the price of the Switch 2 and its games. The console is priced at $449.99. This price may not change, but a huge spike in import costs for the Switch 2 would not make the price any cheaper. It does not seem unlikely that the cost of the Switch 2 may increase in the United States.

This could also impact how many Switch 2 units are avaliable for pre-orders in the United States as well. That said, with so much uncertainty this is all speculation and fans will watch Nintendo closely as they wait for further updates.
