However, recent developments within the scene have given fans a glimmer of hope. So, could Jesse Pinkman and Walter White eventually become Fortnite skins? Here’s what we know.
Official Breaking Bad account follows “Is Breaking Bad in Fortnite?” account
Breaking Bad ended way back on Sept. 29, 2019, with its final episode, unless you’re counting the spin-off Better Call Saul or the Jesse Pinkman-focused continuation film El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. Despite several years in which Breaking Bad was considered by some to be the best show in television history, no Fortnite collaboration ever materialized.
However, an interesting development occurred over the last 24 hours, where the official Breaking Bad X account followed a fan account dedicated to covering whether Breaking Bad is in Fortnite. On March 14, the @BREAKINGBADFORT account revealed this unimaginable news.
Since then, the news has exploded, leading many to believe this is the first inkling of an eventual Fortnite x Breaking Bad collaboration. The show’s official account still posts from time to time while following just over 3,500 accounts. Whether the decision to follow a Fortnite-centric account was deliberate is unclear.
It didn’t take long for leakers and others within the Fortnite scene to circulate the news. Unfortunately, no further details have come to light apart from this.
A brief history of the movement behind this collab
The Fortnite x Breaking Bad movement began not long after Battle Royale took the world by storm. We found Reddit posts dating back to 2018 of fans campaigning for a collaboration with the show. However, it always seemed unlikely based purely on the show’s content.
A meth kingpin entrenched in a world of crime never felt like the ideal crossover, especially for what some would consider a “kids’ game.” Over recent years, Fortnite has collaborated with many adult-themed IPs, including South Park, Mortal Kombat, and Pulp Fiction.
Those partnerships alone have opened up the door to a crossover with an IP like Breaking Bad. Is this the first step toward such a collaboration? Some would say yes, but it’s all conjecture at this point.
What could a Breaking Bad x Fortnite collab entail?
The obvious two choices to headline such a crossover would be the main characters, Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. These two are the co-manufacturers of the infamous blue meth, who have quite a tumultuous history. Apart from them, Gustavo Fring and Saul Goodman could be another solid pair of additions to the game.
Ultimately, only time will tell whether this development is a red herring or could lead to a crossover, as no verifiable leaks have surfaced.
