Epic Games has banned an OCE Fortnite cheater named Mirrored, which led to a formal apology by the player.

Epic Games' campaign against Fortnite cheaters and cheat sellers added another chapter, complete with a formal public apology. The cheater in question, known only by the name Mirrored, took to X to apologize to the Fortnite community amid the developer's legal action against him.

As a result, Epic has permabanned the player, further confirming that Fortnite is the one place cheaters should steer clear of in the gaming world.

What happened in Epic's latest lawsuit against a Fortnite cheater and cheat seller?

It's no secret that cheaters and hackers have plagued Fortnite for some time. Unfortunately, although the game's Easy Anti-Cheat software does its best to limit the offenders, it's challenging to apprehend them all. Rather than banning cheaters and cheat sellers, Epic has recently decided to pursue legal action.

The latest chapter in this ongoing crusade brings us to someone going by the alias of Mirrored. This individual posted their formal apology to the Fortnite community on X in response to the outcome of a lawsuit.

"I would like to apologize to the Fortnite community for both cheating in Fortnite tournaments and selling and distributing cheats and hardware that enabled others to cheat," the statement reads. "I violated Epic's rules and they have taken legal action against me. I am banned from playing Fortnite forever and I'll face legal action if I sell or distribute cheats again."

An X account called OCE Esports News confirmed Mirrored to be a "notorious OCE cheater," making them the second Fortnite player from this region to face legal repercussions. The first instance involved former professional player RepulseGod, who shared his account with a known cheater.

That player proceeded to qualify for the 2023 FNCS Global Championship but did not participate. Upon arriving at the competition, BLAST or Epic Games informed Repulse and his duo that they were unable to compete.

Is Epic Games the best anti-cheat enforcer in gaming history?

There's an argument that all anti-cheat software has holes that are prone to exploits. Call of Duty comes to mind in this regard. Hundreds of thousands of players experience aimbotting and other cheating methods in their Warzone and public matches regularly.

However, that's where the developers can make a difference. Activision rarely enforces its anti-cheat policies beyond reciting a statistic that 'X' number of cheaters were banned from the game. In reality, players can create a new account and continue offending.

Epic Games' approach to reducing the number of cheaters is paramount to Fortnite's casual and competitive ecosystem. Many of these cheaters have stolen thousands, if not millions, in prize winnings from other competitors and Epic Games as a whole.

Dedicating an entire portion of the company's workforce to tracking down and pursuing legal action against these offenders is a strategy other developers should adopt. It's effective and will make players think twice before cheating or selling cheats to others.
