Maomao is returning to your screens with a third season, which will air in two separate cours. Meanwhile, fans can also look forward to a movie release in between, making the wait even more exciting.
The Apothecary Diaries is coming back in 2026
If you love romance, drama, and mystery, don’t miss The Apothecary Diaries. After two successful seasons, the anime returns to screens in October 2026 for the first half of its third season, with the second half airing in April 2027.
And you won’t have to wait long! The series will debut its first theatrical movie in December 2026 in Japan, featuring an all-new original story written by Natsu Hyuga, the creator of the series.
The highly anticipated Apothecary Diaries Exhibition is setting off on an exciting Asia tour. Kicking off in Hong Kong, the exhibition will travel across the region with upcoming stops in Mainland China, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, and more.
A retrospective theater screening series will also take place across five cities in Japan, running sequentially through the end of May. Starting on February 15, 2026, six episodes will be shown every six weeks. Stage greetings are scheduled for February 15 (kickoff of Season 1) and April 12 (kickoff of Season 2). Additional details will be announced at a later date.
What is the anime about?
If you’ve never watched the anime, The Apothecary Diaries follows Maomao, a young woman who lives a peaceful life with her apothecary father. One day, kidnappers sell her as a servant to the emperor’s palace. However, Maomao refuses to live quietly among royalty; she’s destined for something far greater.
So when imperial heirs fall ill, she decides to step in and find a cure! This catches the eye of Jinshi, a handsome palace official who promotes her. Now, she’s making a name for herself solving medical mysteries. The anime is available on Crunchyroll, Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, and Prime Video.
