More HUNTR/X is headed your way as Netflix has confirmed a KPop Demon Hunters sequel, directed by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans.

Netflix has officially confirmed a sequel to the award-winning animated film KPop Demon Hunters! HUNTR/X is due for a comeback in the sequel, which will be directed and written by Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans who also brought the virtual girl group’s film debut to life.

KPop Demon Hunters 2?

The concept of a sequel (and more!) to KPop Demon Hunters is by no means new. Shortly following its record-breaking success as Netflix’s most-watched original animated film of all time, conversations of follow-up projects and sequels circulated the industry. Even Netflix Films chairman Dan Lin publicly stated that they were “excited to explore what could be the next adventure for Huntrix,” and director Maggie Kang was also keen on telling more of Huntrix’ stories.

Late last year, reports of a sequel were floated around, and Sony Pictures Animation president Kristine Belson hinted that a KPop Demon Hunters 2 wouldn’t be finished by 2029. This was in response to a November 2025 report by Bloomberg, which stated that Netflix and Sony have finalized the deal for a sequel and its 2029 release. Initially, Netflix declined to comment on this.

Fast forward a few months later, and we now have confirmation from Netflix.

I feel immense pride as a Korean filmmaker that the audience wants more from this Korean story and our Korean characters. There’s so much more to this world we have built and I’m excited to show you. This is only the beginning.

Huntrix will return, if Appelhans’ quote is to be taken into account. He spoke about how important the characters are to them, and, like Kang, is excited to expand these characters.

These characters are like family to us, their world has become our second home. We’re excited to write their next chapter, challenge them, and watch them evolve — and continue pushing the boundaries of how music, animation, and story can come together.

Chris Appelhans, KPop Demon Hunters director and writer, on expanding HUNTR/X’s story.

“With KPop Demon Hunters, Maggie and Chris didn’t just reach audiences, they ignited a global fandom that crossed languages, generations, and genres,” Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria said. “We’re incredibly proud to deepen our partnership with them and, together with our partners at Sony Pictures Animation, build this universe in ways that will surprise and delight fans all over the world.”

Lin echoed this, saying “Maggie and Chris were brave enough to take a bold creative swing by telling a story that was both deeply personal and broke cultural barriers. At Netflix, our goal is to make someone’s favorite movie, and they did that by making the most popular Netflix movie of all time! There’s so much more story to tell, and we can’t wait to bring more HUNTR/X to fans everywhere.”

KPop Demon Hunters were well-received in many aspects, and was recognized with hundreds of awards and nominations. Huntrix voice actors Arden Cho (Rumi), May Hong (Mira), Ji-young Yoo (Zoey), and their singing voices EJAE (Rumi), Audrey Nuna (Mira), and Rei Ami (Zoey) enjoyed stardom identical to their animated counterparts. KPDH fans are certainly expecting them to reprise their roles, but we have no confirmation on casting just yet.

This was no different in the world of gaming. Fortnite collabed with KPop Demon Hunters that brought Rumi, Mira, Zoey, and Jinu as playable skins and even featured a themed limited-time game mode, among other things. This happened across two waves, one in Oct. 2025, followed by another in Feb. 2026.
