Who are Team Turtle? Somnus and Chalice reunite for a TI2024 comeback

Team Turtle recently appeared in the Open Qualifier for the China region of The International 2024 and successfully advanced to the Closed Qualifier. Led by Somnus and Chalice, this team consists of five well-known Dota 2 players, aiming to shine in the China qualifiers and earn a spot at The International 2024!

This season, Valve announced the cancellation of the Dota Pro Circuit and the return of the traditional TI invitation and open qualifier system. As a result, many star teams are expected to join the qualifiers, and Team Turtle is one of them.

Earlier this year, Somnus and Yang announced on their streams that they would be reforming Team Elephant to prepare for the TI qualifiers. At the time, this team had a nickname Old Elephant.

Initially, the team consisted of Chalice, Somnus, Yang, Pyw, and 皮球(PiQiu). They participated in an event called the Super Dream Cup organized by the Chinese streaming platform Douyu. They defeated another Chinese team named KEV and won it.

Later, due to the rearrangement of LGD Gaming, Pyw, who has a contract with LGD, returned to his original team. Planet took over his position, a former position four player for LGD.

According to the plan, they were set to compete in the qualifiers for both Riyadh Masters 2024 and The International 2024.

However, due to some issues, they were unable to register for the qualifiers of Riyadh. So they only participated in the TI 2024 qualifiers. In the China region Open Qualifier #1, they secured third place, and will begin their journey from the lower bracket of the Closed Qualifier.

The name is connected to a recent meme about Chalice. During a livestream, Yang mentioned that Chalice gave all of his millions of savings to his girlfriend, leading the Chinese community to nickname him as “Turtle Man.” Maybe Old Elephant got inspirations from this, and chose the name Team Turtle for their TI qualifiers.

Team Turtle has a lineup of highly skilled players. Chalice and Somnus, both former LGD veterans, have reached the final day of The International multiple times. Yang has won championships at the Stockholm Major and EPICENTER Major.

Also, planet secured a third-place finish with LGD at The International 2023, and PiQiu also achieved notable results during his time in Team Aster. The current lineup for Team Turtle is as follows:
