Basketball legend and NBA Hall of Famer Earvin "Magic" Johnson has received a limited edition championship ring, courtesy of Team Liquid and their historic Dota 2 campaign at last year's The International.

Johnson, who invests in Liquid ownership company aXiomatic, showed off the brilliant ring on Feb. 27, with it now proudly sitting among his massive collection of trophies earned throughout his career as player, owner, and investor in sports and esports.

Johnson received the ring from Team Liquid and aXiomatic today, thanking the organization in a post on X/Twitter. The ring is shaped in the form of a shield with the Liquid logo embossed in blue and silver, with the outside studded in diamonds.

The inner section of the shield border is gold with the year (2024) and team name included, while the ring also includes the team name and Johnson's "Magic" moniker. It's a stunning piece that looks incredibly like an NBA or NFL Superbowl championship ring.

The ring was made to celebrate Liquid's run at TI 2024. The squad emerged as a top seed from the group stage before making a flawless playoff bracket run, including two sweeps against one of the favorites, Gaimin Gladiators.

"What an amazing addition to my collection!" Johnson said, adding his collection of championship rings is now 17, with two earned via Liquid. The other was for Liquid's win at TI 2017, where the KuroKy-led squad fought through the lower bracket to lift the Aegis.

The bulk of his rings were won for the Los Angeles Lakers; five as a player, and five as part-owner. Since then he's branched out; Johnson entered esports with an investment in aXiomatic back in 2016 — one of several investments in the sporting space.

The 65-year-old is currently a part-owner of the MLB's Los Angeles Dodgers, the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks, the MLS' Los Angeles FC, and the NFL's Washington Commanders, among other projects.

"What an incredibly kind man, and it's so awesome to have him on the team," Liquid production and development director Joey "Leafeator" Thimian said, while the official aXiomatic Gaming account added they were "honored" to have Johnson support the squad.

This isn't the first time he's shouted out Liquid; alongside a second ring thanks to the TI7-winning Dota squad, he's often praised other Liquid squads including the Intel Grand Slam-winning CS:GO squad and the LCS-winning League of Legends team.
