GH and SumaiL to play for Shopify Rebellion in PGL Wallachia

An unexpected reunion.

Shopify Rebellion just announced two prominent players who will help the team in their PGL Wallachia journey. Former The International (TI) winners, Maroun "GH" Merhej and Sumail "SumaiL" Hassan, will stand-in for the North American team for PGL Wallachia this May 10th.

Why the vacant slots in the team? Shopify Rebellion had parted ways with position four player, Thiolicor, on April 29. On top of that, their Filipino midlaner became the latest prey of the inevitable VISA problem. Erin Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer couldn't attend the event in Romania, leaving another empty position in Shopify Rebellion for the upcoming PGL Wallachia.

To fill in for Yopaj, Shopify called one of the most notable midlaners out there. SumaiL is currently a player for Nigma Galaxy, but with the team mostly on the bench for most tournaments, he has been on a stand-in spree. He recently played as a stand-in for Team Falcons in ESL One Birmingham, though only for a day.

Interestingly, this also pairs him with former teammate, Artour "Arteezy" Babaev. Both of them have shared the limelight during the glorious days of Evil Geniuses, forming an intimidating core duo. While SumaiL left EG in January of 2020, Arteezy stuck around until November of 2022. PGL Wallachia will see the duo reunite for another high-profile competition.

Next to SumaiL, GH will join Shopify Rebellion in the fight! The renowned position four player took an indefinite break from Dota 2 in December 2023. Despite still being a part of Nigma Galaxy, GH took his time off to spend time with his loved ones.

Now he's back and ready for some more Dota 2 action. GH stepping in for PGL Wallachia marks his first Dota 2 competition in almost five months. He'll have one day to warm up before PGL Wallachia begins tomorrow on May 10th 2024.
