Let's be honest: Much like its sibling series World of Warcraft, Diablo is a big ole game of dress-up. Well, look no further than learning how to salvage gear in Diablo 4!
In addition to the all-important task of getting new looks for your OC, salvage serves another purpose. It's the easiest way to get crafting materials used for upgrading your armor and weapons. After all, the bags of loot you're dragging back from the gates of hell have to go somewhere.

How do I salvage gear in Diablo 4?
In order to salvage your gear in Diablo 4 you'll first need to find a Blacksmith vendor. Typically, you'll find one wherever there's a town with a fast travel waypoint such as Kyovashad, Cerrigar, and others. If you're not sure, just highlight a town on your map and look at the services available, keeping an eye out for the blacksmith anvil logo.
After that, talk to the Blacksmith and you're offered one of three menu items: Salvage, Repair, and Upgrade. On the Salvage page you can either choose specific types of items in your inventory, or individually select gear by clicking the "Directly in Inventory" logo shaped by a hammer. Then, simply select the item you wish to destroy. You'll get back salvaged crafting materials in return, all for free.
The rarity of the item salvaged will change the type of crafting material given, as will the type of item. If you're looking for Rare Crafting Material such as Coiling Wards to fully upgrade legendary gear then you'll need to, in turn, salvage your bronze-colored treasure.
In addition, items listed in your bag during the salvaging process with a hammer icon on them serve another purpose. Salvaging this gear will give back a transmogrification, adding the look of that piece of gear to your wardrobe.
if you aren't hurting for gold--and you shouldn't be--then salvage every single last piece of gear you come across. Not only do you expand your wardrobe of new outfit options, but you get back those all-too-critical materials needed to truly get more powerful.
