What does the IEM Cologne schedule look like?

IEM Cologne 2023 format

The IEM Cologne 2023 will have three stages - the Play-In Stage, the group stage, and the playoffs. The Play-In stage is the final opportunity for teams to make their way to the Group stage, which is when the event actually starts. Eight of the teams have qualified directly to the group stage and won’t need to go through the Play-In stage again.

Play In stage (July 26-28, 2023)

The Play-In stage features a double-elimination bracket where all opening matches are best of one series. All subsequent matches are best of three to ensure that all teams have a fair chance. While the Play-In stage will start with sixteen teams only eight will survive the stage.

The top eight teams from the Play-In stage will move forth to the Group stage. They will be joined by the pre-qualified eight teams. All matches in the group stage are the best-of-three series.

The winners of the group stage will advance to the Semifinals. The runners-up will move forth as the Quarterfinals High seeds while the 3rd placed team advance to the Quarterfinals as low seeds.

The Playoffs is when the teams and players get to experience the Lanxess Arena in its full show. The Cathedral of Counter-strike has hosted some of the most memorable games in CS:GO. It is a single-elimination bracket where all matches save for the Grand Finals
