NiP go down to the Play-In Stage

The BLAST Premier Fall Groups is underway and some of the best teams in the world are competing in Copenhagen. Only six teams from the Fall Groups will advance to the Fall Finals later in August. The rest of the teams will have to battle it out in the Showdown. Today, G2 eased past NIP to secure their slot in the Fall Finals.

G2 qualify for Fall Finals

The first map of Ancient saw G2 off to a flying start. With a 7-1 lead, G2 was clearly in the driving seat with mONESY stepping up in a big way for the squad. With 24 frags at the end of map 1, mONESY and G2 were dictating the pace of the map.

NIP had glimpses of brilliant performance, but the squad was simply outgunned and out-aimed by G2 esports. Regardless, it was a respectable score as G2 won Ancient with a 13-7 score.

The second map of Inferno saw a much more even first half between NiP and G2 esports. On Inferno, G2 were constantly aggressively pushing through on the T-side, often taking fights that would put the team at risk. Much of this confidence stemmed from the first map and the ease with which G2 moved past NiP. The team’s performance, despite some initial hiccups still saw G2 eke out a similar score. They were particularly impressive on the CT side only giving away two rounds. MalbsMd ended the map with 16 frags to his name, just behind huNter- who had 18. G2 took Inferno witha 13-8 score. With this victory, they secured the series with a 2-0 victory and qualified for the Fall Finals.

The BLAST Premier Fall Groups has sixteen teams participating in a double-elimination format through the group stage. The tournament takes place on LAN without a live audience. With a $190,000 prize pool, this event is the first tournament of the new season.
