Eternal Fire, paiN, ECSTATIC earn a spot at the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Elimination Stage

They thought that was easy? Wait until they see who’s next.

Three more teams have made it to the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Elimination Stage. Eternal Fire, paiN, and ECSTATIC only lost one match throughout their Opening endeavors—now they’re set for the big stage.

This leaves three spots left in the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening Stage. At least Eternal Fire, paiN, and ECSTATIC can take a sigh of relief.

Eternal Fire, paiN, and ECSTATIC's victories

Eternal Fire’s run

The Turkish superteam has made it through to the next stage of the Copenhagen Major after convincingly taking down three teams. Their initial matches against TheMongolz (13-6) and paiN (13-2) showed that they weren’t here to mess around. They seemed to be on the right track for a 3-0 Opening Stage run, displaying their potential for upsets further down the line.

However, HEROIC proved to be the one and only hurdle for Eternal Fire. Despite almost making it a three-map series, HEROIC managed to close out the best-of-three in two—thanks to an overtime win on Eternal Fires map pick, Vertigo. Fortunately for Eternal Fire, their flame hadn’t been blown out.

GamerLegion managed to decimate Eternal Fire on Overpass. However, the Turkish squad fired back instantaneously with a convincing Inferno display. A neck-and-neck Vertigo encounter was the perfect way to finish it off, with GamerLegion failing to break past Eternal Fires CT side defense.

  • GamerLegion won the first map: Overpass 13-4
  • Eternal Fire won the second map: Inferno 13-2
  • Eternal Fire won the third map: Vertigo 13-11

PaiN’s lack thereof

The Brazilian paiN squad managed to breeze through the Opening Stage of the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024. They handled Apeks (13-8) with ease and destroyed ENCE (13-3). However, their Eternal Fire match showed they have a weakness—Anubis. This map in particular has been a rough trot for the South American lineup and Eternal Fire (2-13) used it against them.

But, SAW did not. This might’ve proved to be SAW’s downfall, as both Nuke and Vertigo undoubtedly went paiN’s way. Both maps were a walk in the park for paiN.

  • paiN won map one: Vertigo (13-10)
  • paiN won map two: Nuke (13-7)

ECSTATIC? I'm sure they are!

ECSTATIC was in no way expected to make it through above some of the other teams that fell early on in the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening Stage—but, they did.

A collection of players who have been floating around the lower-tier, Danish CS2 scene for quite some time have booked their ticket to the Elimination Stage after a rather fortunate run of opponents.

Their initial encounter against Cloud9 was rather close but ultimately went the way of the Russian C9 squad (13-10). This set them up for the 0-1 bracket matchup against the top roster of the Asian scene, but a rather easy encounter if you’re from any other region, TheMongolz. Fortunately, ECSTATIC was victorious and it laid the foundation for the rest of their matches to come.

They faced the second-best Asian squad, Lynn Vision (13-8). This was a similar encounter to TheMongolz because these teams really struggle to make a dent in any region other than their own.

The same goes for their final encounter, Imperial. Imperial might be close to a powerhouse in the Brazilian scene, but that doesn’t make them solid anywhere else.

ECSTATIC easily handled the first map of Anubis, and even fought well on the second map. Imperial almost made a solid comeback on Vertigo through their CT side, but ECSTATIC set themselves up too well on their defense. All ECSTATIC needed was two T rounds, and they did with time to spare.

  • ECSTATIC won the first map: Anubis (13-4)
  • Imperial won the second map: Inferno (13-10)
  • ECSTATIC won the third map: Vertigo (13-9)

Each team has earned its spot. But, will they be able to survive in the next stage of the PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024?
