OpTic have now won back-to-back world championships with a dominant EWC victory.

Does the Esports World Cup matter in COD history now? OpTic Gaming has taken home their second world championship in the same month, winning the Black Ops 6 EWC tournament in dominant fashion. OpTic didn't drop a single game en route to the grand finals and swept the Vancouver Surge in the final to cement one of the best seasons in the history of the esport.

Just a few weeks ago, OpTic Texas completed a storybook CDL Champs run with another win over the Surge. Now, the same roster is raising the EWC cup, proving their Champs victory was the start of something special in Call of Duty.

There were some questions surrounding the OpTic roster heading into EWC. Many fans in the COD community wanted to see if the team's Champs run was a fluke or if the roster had truly defeated its demons that plagued them at the start of the season. Those demons saw OpTic Texas go 0-18 in map count through six consecutive matches during the middle of the season, forcing several roster changes. The final roster change that dropped Skyz and replaced him with Mercules single-handedly saved OpTic's season and future.

We all know the story by now, and it's official that OpTic's Champs run was anything but a fluke. The entire team of Mercules, Shotzzy, Dashy, and Huke gels so incredibly well together, and they look downright unbeatable most of the time.

While they did have to pull off a reverse sweep in the winner's finals against Team Heretics, that series had some controversial moments that could have resulted in either team pulling out multiple map wins. Aside from the Heretics series, OpTic barely broke a sweat in any of its matches throughout the tournament, eventually flawlessly sweeping the Surge 4-0 in the finals.

Shotzzy was crowned the MVP of the Black Ops 6 EWC tournament, although the award could have gone to any of the OpTic players. Every player had their moment at different times, with Dashy dropping a near-1.5 KD in the finals, Mercules putting up consistent numbers, and Huke masterfully making the right plays over and over.

This now marks the end of the Black Ops 6 season, and OpTic are the hands-down favorites going into next season. They've now completed the best turnaround of any team in COD history with two world championships in a single season and look like a dynasty in the making. However, rostermania over the next two months should be the wildest it's ever been, so there's potential for a superteam to form with the sole goal of dethroning OpTic.
