It looks like Yemen is finally being remastered in Black Ops 7.

Treyarch developers are slowly releasing news to the community about Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 in the lead-up to Call of Duty Next and the multiplayer beta. The most recent piece of news we've received about the game surrounds the multiplayer maps. Specifically, the developers seemingly confirmed the remaster of Yemen in Black Ops 7, a fan-favorite map from Black Ops 2.

Yemen has never been remastered in any Call of Duty title since its original version. This is despite many fans calling for it in games like Black Ops Cold War and Black Ops 6. In addition to Yemen, Treyarch also teased some other fan-favorite Black Ops 2 returning in BO7, including some potential competitive maps.

Yemen is finally coming back in Black Ops 7

In the recent edition of Dev Talk from Treyarch, two developers spoke about the multiplayer maps in Black Ops 7 and what fans can expect in the full release, as well as the beta. The devs talked about how the 16 core 6v6 maps were designed with a three-lane design in mind and how more of them will be medium-sized compared to the smaller size of BO6's maps. We also got some welcome details about the maps being more colorful than the release maps that were on offer in BO6.

After those details, though, the developers answered a question about the potential for Black Ops 2 remastered maps in Black Ops 7. While the developers didn't specifically name any maps coming back post-launch, they did give us a couple of massive teasers. The first of these teasers all but confirms the return of Yemen (seen at 2:54 in the Dev Talk video):

"One of my favorites [returning BO2 map] will have you thinking you're the best in the game."

If you don't understand why this is a reference to Yemen, then you likely didn't watch competitive Call of Duty during Black Ops 2. This quote is in reference to Seth "Scump" Abner of OpTic Gaming screaming he's "the best in the game" during a live-comm while on the map Yemen. Scump breaks into the tiny room point in Hardpoint on Yemen, kills multiple members of the enemy team, yells he's the best in the game, and then the live-comm ends. That quote has become famous within the competitive COD scene over the years.

Now, it's being used to tease the return of Yemen in Black Ops 7. Yemen has never been remastered in any Call of Duty title since BO2, but that's almost certainly going to change during one of the post-launch seasons in BO7.

What other Black Ops 2 maps are being remastered in Black Ops 7?

In addition to the Yemen reference, the Treyarch devs also teased us with a few more potential Black Ops 2 maps that could return this year.

One of the teasers was for a Black Ops 2 map that has never been remastered, and many fans in the community have guessed it correctly on social media. The current speculation signals that this map could either be Plaza or Carrier, both of which are always brought up when talking about potential remasters for a Black Ops game. Competitive players want Plaza back, while snipers have been asking to see Carrier again for over a decade.

The final teaser we got about the potential map remasters is that once again, it's a map that has never been brought back and was played solely in Search and Destroy in BO2. This could either be Meltdown or Cargo, but most fans are leaning towards Meltdown since that likely fits the BO7 vibe better. Meltdown was also more prominently featured in BO2 competitive, as it's the S&D map that COD Champs ended on that season.

Those were all the teasers we got regarding the potential BO2 map remasters coming to Black Ops 7. Yemen is all but confirmed to return, but we don't know about the others as of yet. What is fully confirmed is that the Carry Forward is not coming to BO7, and the Prestige system is back and better than ever.
