MW3 Ranked Play Mode will arrive mid-Season One according to Sledgehammer’s Greg Reisdorf. Developer Treyarch will be behind it.
You may think that MW3 having a Ranked Mode at launch would be a given, but it appears the mode will be arriving mid-season One of the upcoming Sledgehammer Games title. This is not an unfamiliar scenario, as ranked play did not arrive in MW2 until five months after its launch.
"Our friends at Treyarch are on the case again with Ranked Play. They do a fantastic job, we love partnership with them on it. They are going to bring that experience, update and modernise it from Modern Warfare 2," said Greg Reisdorf, Multiplayer Creative Director at Sledgehammer Games, on panel at Call of Duty Next 2023.
Modern Warfare 3: When is MW3 Ranked mode being released?
Modern Warfare 3 Ranked Mode will not be available at launch, but will be released mid-Season 1 according to a spokesperson for Sledgehammer Games. This means with the current MW3 release date, its likely Ranked Mode will arrive around January - February 2024.
"For Season 1.5 we'll have MW3 Ranked Mode out," said Sledgehammer's Greg Reisdorf.
MW3 Ranked Mode is being worked on in partnership with Treyarch, who were behind Ranked Mode in Modern Warfare 2.
Sledgehammer's Greg Reisdorf added it would give players additional time to familiarise themselves with the game and the restrictions. Restrictions in MW2 were based on the Call of Duty League (CDL) ruleset.
News of the involvement of Treyarch in MW3 Ranked Mode has been received positively by the community. Despite the delay, the silver lining is that it's a shorter wait than Ranked Play in Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2 was released in October 2022, but did not have Ranked Play until February 2023.
The MW3 beta launches on October 6 and is only available on Playstation for the first weekend. Additional platforms will be added for the second wave.
