MW2 Ranked Play is coming in early 2023. It will be Treyarch’s third attempt at making a Ranked Playlist for a Call of Duty title.
Ranked Play is coming to MW2 but not until early 2023. Ranked Play developer Treyarch have confirmed this news on Twitter. They have previously made the Ranked Play for Call of Duty: Vanguard and their last game, Cold War.
Coming at the release of MW2 Ranked Play:
- Competitive modes
- Ranked skill divisions
- Visible skill ratings
- Top 250 leaderboard
- Competitive rewards
In the meantime before Ranked Play releases
In the meantime, players will be able to play a CDL Moshpit playlist in Modern Warfare 2. That comes out at the start of Season 1 on November 16.
That mode will feature 4v4 gameplay. Players have the chance to learn maps and playstyles without risking ranking points. It will also allow time for the Call of Duty League to establish the exact mapset and rules for the new season, allowing developers enough time to get everything right in the game.
Treyarch will reveal more in the next few weeks regarding the CDL Moshpit mode. It's not yet known whether the CDL ban list will be included in this mode. This would be difficult to enforce if it is just one option on the quick-play list in MW2.

Players should appreciate the ability to play 4v4-style Call of Duty in-game. It takes away the reliance on third-parties such as CMG and Gamebattles.
Some players may be unhappy that they have to wait so long for Ranked Play to be introduced into MW2. It was always expected to come out in line with the start of the 2023 Call of Duty League season in December.
The new approach is arguably better, with players actually having time to run into CDL-style maps without having to worry about their ranks. At least players will have something CDL-esque to grind until the full release of Ranked Play.

Retirement of Vanguard and Cold War Ranked systems
The focus that Treyarch have on the new Ranked Play in MW2 means that their previous ranking systems will be retired this month. Both Cold War and Vanguard will have their ranked playlists closed from November 22.
Players can still play those two playlists up until that date to make sure that they have gained all rewards possible.
This does mean that as of November 22, there will never be another battle between Doug "Censor" Martin and the rest of the world for the top spot in the Top 250 Leaderboard in Vanguard.
The undeniable success of Treyarch's previous two Ranked Play models means they have the perfect platform to build from. The developer confirmed that they are using all previous feedback in improving the future of Ranked Play.
"The success of these modes has directly contributed to the future of Ranked Play," The Twitter statement continued. We sincerely thank you for all the data, feedback, and time played that was collected over the past two years. We look forward to sharing more soon!"
