The H2M mod, aiming to bring original Call of Duty: MW2 content to MW Remastered has received a Cease and Desist from Activision.

A dedicated team spent time and money to release a completely free mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. The H2M mod was meant to put the classic feel of the original Modern Warfare 2 into MW Remastered, but that will no longer happen because of a Cease and Desist letter.

Just one day prior to its official launch, Activision put a stop the mod. There's nothing that can be done by the team, as they've noted they are stopping all work on the mod immediately because of the demand by Activision.

H2M mod shut down through a Cease and Desist a day before launch

The Call of Duty H2M mod had a scheduled launch of August 16, 2024. On August 15, the eve of the release, the mod's X account posted the news.

"Today, our team members received a Cease & Desist order on behalf of Activision Publishing in relation to the H2M-Mod project. We are complying with this order and shutting down all operations immediately and permanently."

This comes right after Modern Warfare Remastered was on sale on Steam. It was up to 50% off and saw many players purchase it in order to prepare for the H2M mod release. The Cease and Desist from Activision Publishing changed all of that.

Now, players with less than two hours played on MW Remastered are looking to get it refunded on Steam. And a lot of the community is not happy, as this was a completely free project, and some feel it wasn't a coincidence that the Cease and Desist for the HM2 mod was sent after the sale ended.

Reactions to the H2M mod Cease and Desist news in the Call of Duty community

Pro players, X accounts of esports organizations, and casual gamers waiting for the H2M mod alike were taken aback by this news. Let's have a look at some of the reactions:

There are claims that Activision doesn't want the H2M mod to take away from the hype of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6. Others claim they just wanted the money from the MW Remastered sales. Regardless, they're in their right to send the Cease and Desist letter.

That doesn't make it any less heartbreaking to see all of the hard work and anticipation gone in the blink of an eye.
