The supposed release date of Black Ops 7 might bring some bad tidings.

The leaking season for Call of Duty is in full swing, and while Black Ops 7 won't be fully revealed for another month, we have our first piece of juicy news about the game. According to a reputable leaker within the CoD community, Black Ops 7 has a tentative release date that might not be the best news for the game as a whole.

Below, you can see the leaked release date for Black Ops 7 and why it could spell disaster before the game even launches.

What's the leaked release date for Black Ops 7?

The leaker who spilled the beans about the potential release date for BO7 is @TheGhostOfHope on Twitter/X. If you're wired into the CoD community on social media, you've likely seen leaks or reports from this user before. They're extremely reliable and rarely miss on one of their leaks, but of course, the news is still unofficial, so take it with whatever measure of salt you'd like.

According to TheGhostOfHope, Black Ops 7 is currently slated to launch on Friday, Nov. 14, 2025.

If that release date seems a little off to you, then you clearly know your CoD history. If this release date stands, then it would be the latest Call of Duty launch in the franchise's history. In the past few years, we've seen games come out as early as the third week of October, while other games have released in very early November at the latest.

We have to go back to 2020 and Black Ops Cold War to find a release date near the leaked one for BO7. Cold War launched on Nov. 13, 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic likely played a massive role in this late release date. The only other time a Call of Duty game was released that late in November was Black Ops 3, which also launched on Nov. 13 in 2015.

This late release date for BO7 lines up with another leak from TheGhostOfHope that states the COD Next event will take place in late September, with a multiplayer beta to follow in October. With the beta ending close to mid-October, it doesn't come as a shock that we'll potentially have to wait around a month before seeing the full release.

What does this mean for Black Ops 7?

While having a potential release date is good news for the community, the date itself comes with some trepidation.

As TheGhostOfHope pointed out, when a Call of Duty title releases later in the year, it usually means the game isn't as well-polished or finished as a game that releases earlier. We clearly saw this with Black Ops Cold War, as that game launched with only 9 multiplayer maps, a barebones Zombies mode, and a plethora of in-game issues. While COVID-19 absolutely played a part in that, the later release date was a good indication of how Activision saw the game.

Of course, a later release date doesn't always mean a Call of Duty game won't be finished or polished. Black Ops 3 was arguably the most complete game in the franchise's history at launch, releasing with top-notch multiplayer and Zombies modes, an overwhelming amount of content, and a full Campaign (even if the story was bad).

As we all know, though, the Call of Duty we had in 2015 isn't the Call of Duty we have in 2025. The franchise is fundamentally different in today's age, and a later release date of Black Ops 7 would likely mean the game is going to be missing some content at launch. After all, reports have suggested that BO7 is a copycat of the latest MW3, which was originally designed to be a DLC for MW2 in 2023. BO7 will reportedly include a ton of remastered maps from Black Ops 2, which is exactly how MW3 started (remastering all 16 original MW2 maps).

All in all, we won't know anything about what a potential Nov. 14 release date will mean for BO7 until we see the full game. We'll be getting the worldwide reveal trailer at Gamescom in August, and then see the multiplayer at COD Next in September.

Until then, you can stay tuned to EsportsGG for all future Call of Duty and BO7 news.
