The 2025 Call of Duty League (CDL) season is off to an incredible start following Major 1, which took place in Madrid, Spain, this past weekend. All 12 teams were in attendance, but it came down to what most would consider the two best teams in the league. Ultimately, after a pulse-pounding weekend, the Atlanta FaZe took down the Los Angeles Thieves in the Grand Finals.

Here is how the weekend played out in Madrid for CDL Major 1.

CDL Major 1 saw 12 teams narrowed down to two across the weekend. Following an unexpected early exit by OpTic Texas, the Grand Finals saw Atlanta FaZe face off against their rivals, the Los Angeles Thieves. However, the two first squared up in the Winners Finals, which saw FaZe reverse-sweeping the Thieves to secure a spot in the Grand Finals.

The CDL Major 1 2025 Grand Finals was an incredible display of professional Call of Duty. Atlanta FaZe collapsed in the opening Hacienda Hardpoint, letting a 200-135 lead slip away. FaZe rallied back in games two and three, winning Red Card Search & Destroy 6-4 and Hacienda Control 3-2. The Thieves then took game four, Red Card Hardpoint, 250-229 to even up the series 2-2.

After a quick 6-1 victory against the Thieves in Vault Search & Destroy, FaZe needed one more game to win the tournament. The Thieves struck back, stunning FaZe in Protocol Control 3-1 to send the Grand Finals to a decisive game seven.

What happened in game seven between the Thieves and FaZe?

If the previous six matches were any indication, Skyline Search & Destroy would not go to round 11. An early death by HyDra put the Thieves in a hole. Despite planting the bomb, timely kills by the 'Tiny Terrors' of Tyler "aBeZy" Pharris and Chris "Simp" Lehr allowed the latter to defuse the bomb.

FaZe silenced the raucous crowd in Madrid to win CDL Major 1 2025 and officially establish themselves as the team to beat. The rivalry heated up even more following the match, with Zack "Drazah" Jordan and Thomas "Scrap" Ernst exchanging words during the handshake.

All four Atlanta FaZe players carried their weight, but Simp received the MVP award for CDL Major 1 2025. He finished the tournament with a 1.07 K/D, but his many clutch plays and moments ultimately earned him the honors.
