The Malta Gaming Authority unveiled a new tool to help individuals recognise signs of gambling addiction and access support services.
The Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) has launched a new self-assessment tool to help individuals evaluate their gambling habits and identify potential risks before they become harmful. This initiative forms part of the MGA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen player protection and foster a safer gambling environment.
The tool presents users with a series of questions designed to prompt reflection on their gambling behavior. Based on their responses, participants receive guidance on possible next steps and are directed to relevant support services. The questionnaire is available in both English and Maltese, making it accessible to both local and international users.
According to the MGA, the tool aims to encourage early self-awareness and help users recognize signs of problematic gambling before issues escalate. It complements existing responsible gambling initiatives, including self-exclusion options and operator obligations to monitor player activity.
The Authority developed the tool following consultations held during Safer Gambling Week with several local organisations, such as Caritas Malta, Agenzija Sedqa, the OASI Foundation, and the Responsible Gaming Foundation. These collaborations helped refine the questionnaire to ensure its relevance and effectiveness across a diverse audience.

Responsible gaming agenda for 2025
Earlier this year, the MGA also unveiled its updated regulatory oversight approach for 2025, which focuses on improving supervision processes and enhancing engagement with licensed operators.
The introduction of the self-assessment tool underscores the Authority’s commitment to transparency, responsibility, and proactive player protection. It also reinforces the MGA’s broader strategy to integrate prevention and early intervention mechanisms into its regulatory framework.
Looking ahead, the MGA plans to continue working closely with industry stakeholders and social support organisations to expand responsible gambling resources. The Authority has also signalled its intention to explore digital tools and data-driven initiatives that further empower players to make informed decisions and maintain control over their gambling behavior. The new self-assessment tool is now available on the MGA’s official website.
