A new direction for Luminosity in ALGS Year 5.

Luminosity yesterday announced they are parting ways with their Apex Legends competitive roster. The news is one of the biggest milestones in the ongoing 'Rostermania' happening between ALGS Year 4 and Year 5.

It seems that almost every single player in North America could be open to changing teams. This includes big name break-ups like TSM, 100 Thieves and NRG.

Luminosity release Apex Legends roster

In a surprise, but seemingly very amicable, announcement Luminosity revealed that their team were now unrestricted free agents heading into Year 5. It was a bold decision from Luminosity to build a team around star IGL Sweetdreams, having parted ways with their previous roster at the end of ALGS Year 3.

It was a move that yielded success, despite the team not winning any of the four LAN events across the last season of competition. The side narrowly missed out on LAN victories at the Esports World Cup and the ALGS Championship.

It appeared that the roster was already looking to go their separate ways, after FURIA player ImMadness shared private messages between him and Luminosity player Sikezz. The now deleted messages said that all three of the players were free to explore their options.

Luminosity aren't leaving the ALGS

It was also revealed that Luminosity aren't done with Apex Legends esports.

The head of Luminosity, Alex Gonzalez, revealed that they are exploring all options ahead of ALGS Year 5. They are prepared to enter any of the four ALGS regions. Further messages with now former player Sweetdreams implies that it was a mutual decision to part ways.

LG made it easy to leave, something a lot of orgs make very difficult. Thanks, as always.

It is not yet clear what the plans are for Fuhhnq, Sikezz and Sweetdreams. With so many players changing teams, it would be a surprise if all three competed together in Year 5.

Other roster moves include Nocturnal stepping away from competition

It has been a whirlwind week since the ALGS Championship concluded. It is likely that almost every team in North America, and a lot of teams in EMEA will look very different when the Pro League roster lock arrives in March.

TSM, Reps, Verhulst and Zaptoh have announced they are going their separate ways. Cloud 9 have dropped their roster and now it looks like NRG are also splitting apart. FunFPS announced he is LFT for Year 5, and Nocturnal revealed he is stepping back from competition.

Hey, so I’ll be stepping down from NRG as a player. Unsure if this a permanent thing or not but simply put this has been one of the worst years I’ve lived and I’m exhausted. I lost a lot of myself recently and joining or creating a new roster will burn me out to an irreparable level. Thanks for the continued support over the years with my career and the memories I’ve had with all of you.

These are just a handful of the players who could be on the move. Often these 'Rostermania' periods work like dominos. Once a couple of pieces fall into place, several other roster moves follow in their wake. Key figures include the likes of Verhulst and Phony, who are both understood to have several options avaliable to them.
