A huge announcement about the upcoming ALGS Midseason Playoffs.
EA have announced that the ALGS Midseason Playoffs will be held at the Esports World Cup this summer. This news essentially combines what people expected to be two separate events into one, with the already announced EWC Apex Legends LAN also acting as the Midseason Playoff event.
That means we now know the date and location for that event, ahead of the Pro League Split 1 resuming this weekend. The event will also carry a $2,000,000 prize pool. This is double the originally announced Midseason Playoffs total, but is the same as last years standalone EWC event.
The ALGS Midseason Playoffs will be held at the Esports World Cup
Todays news means that teams know exactly where they are heading if they perform well across the remainder of the Split 1 Pro League. The Esports World Cup schedule has the Apex Legends event taking place from July 10 until July 13.
As always, there has been a huge interest in the event from organisations. The club programme that the EWC run means that teams are incentivised to compete in as many games as possible. That has seen countless organisations re-join or debut in Apex Legends over the last few months.
The bulk of the 40 ALGS Midseason Playoffs teams competing will qualify through the ALGS Split 1 Pro League in the tried and tested familiar fashion. Teams can either place highly in the League, or win the Regional Finals. However, there are five teams that can already book their flight to Riyadh.
These are Team Falcons, Alliance, Al Qadsiah, 100 Thieves and Shopify Rebellion. These teams all directly qualified through a top five finish at the recent ALGS Open.
Announcement sure to take some criticism
Todays ALGS Midseason Playoffs announcement will no doubt take some criticism. While a few had started to connect the dots and anticipated this announcement, many Apex Legends fans and players expected to see four LAN events this year, as was the case in 2024.
While the ALGS Midseason Playoffs are technically being upgraded with this news, it does come at the cost of one LAN event. However, having this event baked into the ALGS schedule is an upgrade in some regards. There was player frustration last season after Pro League standings were used for direct entry, but teams did not know that this was the case at the time.

ALGS Midseason Playoffs format
The ALGS Midseason Playoffs format will be different to "traditional" ALGS Playoffs events. The 40 teams will compete in the "Pool Play" stage, divided into two 20 team groups. This will lead to a Last Chance Semifinals and then of course a Match Point Format Finals.
In the Pool Play stage, each group will compete in a 10-match series, with teams accumulating points each match. After all matches are completed in a given group, the teams with the group’s seven highest total points will advance straight to the Match Point Finals. The 10 teams ranking 8th - 17th by total points in each group will advance to the Last Chance Semifinals, and the three teams ranked 18th - 20th in each group will be eliminated from the event.
In the Last Chance Semifinals, ten matches will be played, and teams will accumulate points according to their performance in each match. At the end of the series, the six teams with the highest total points will advance to the Match Point Finals, and the fourteen teams ranked 7th -20th will be eliminated from the competition.
The remaining 20 teams will compete in the Match Point Finals to determine who will be crowned the ALGS Midseason Playoffs champions.
We also know that a huge 16 teams will be sent from the Americas Region, with eight from EMEA, APAC North and APAC South. This means that over half of the Americas Pro League will be at the event.
The event will, like last years Esports World Cup event, pay all 40 teams a share of the $2,000,000 prize pool.
