Gen.G dominate APAC South Split 2 as VK falter ahead of ALGS 2026

A look back at APAC South Split 2 so far. Gen.G dominate, VK Gaming decline, and Wolves, Five Fears, BearClaw, and Tom Yum Kung battle for position before the last weekend.

With just one Pro League weekend left to play, Gen.G stand as clear frontrunners in the APAC South Split 2 Regular Season. New kids on the block Five Fears, BearClaw Gaming and Tom Yum Kung have impressed, but only #1 in the Regional Finals would qualify them for Japan.

Gen.G's consistency is terrifying

Gen.G, who placed 2nd in Split 1 Pro League APAC South, are leading Split 2 by a massive margin heading into the final weekend. The Thai roster comes off the back of an impressive 4th place on LAN at the Mid-Season Playoffs.

Gen.G's consistency is remarkable for a Battle Royale. The team has never finished outside of top 3 across the five rounds of Regular Season. This isn't even about smart placements. Gen.G secured 10 kills or more in 20% of the games they've played, a remarkable statistic when combined with the consistent top 3 finishes. But not every giant has been thriving this Split.

Mid-Season Playoff Champions VK Gaming's decline

The biggest surprise of Split 2 so far is the fall of VK Gaming, who were winners of the Mid-Season Playoffs in Riyadh in July.

A month later, Chen "QQ" Yin-hong who was voted Sony's MVP at the tournament, voluntarily moved to the subs bench due to undisclosed personal reasons. In response, VK Gaming placed their trust in BJJS_012, a Taiwanese player with no prior competitive experience in the ALGS.

Results so far have been poor in Split 2 of APAC for VK Gaming, who placed #1 in the Regular Season of Split 1 and #2 in the Regional Finals. The Chinese team continued their descent from #15 to #17 in the penultimate weekend of Pro League's regular season, amassing only 15 kills across 6 games.

Yet, it is not the end of the road for VK Gaming. The team has already qualified for ALGS Championships 2026 in Japan based on Championship Points (#3 overall), by which point QQ could be back in action.

While VK falter, new names are rising fast.

Wolves Esports made no roster changes and have built on their #6 finish from Split 1, to be now sitting comfortably at #2 in Split 2 of Pro League. They've also now accrued enough Championship Points to almost guarantee their spot at ALGS Championships 2026.

Around them in 3-5th place are Five Fears, BearClaw Gaming and Tom Yum Kung.

Tom Yum Kung have brought back IGL Teerachock "Killoposz" Muedin, who you may remember from his time at eXo Clan, who were a surprise underdog team at the ALGS Championships 2022.

BearClaw Gaming are a breath of fresh air and sit at 4th. This is the sixth APAC South Pro League for BearClaw's Heath "Heckk" Angel and Lymo, who have had their best run ever with newcomer Josh "Walking L" Neubronner. Walking L's prize money winnings so far amounts to just $72, but they could well do some damage come the Regional Finals.

As things stand S8UL Esports, VK Gaming, Gen.G Esports and Al Qadisah are guaranteed to qualify for Champs 2026 based on Championship Points. #2 behind a Championship Points qualified team does NOT result in an invite. Given how far ahead Gen.G are in the Regular Season, for the other 16 teams in the upcoming Regionals Finals, it will be win at all costs.

The only teams on the fringe of being in the top 24 based on Championship Points are JD Gaming (#29), who could jump up with a top 5 finish or better in the Regional Finals.
