"We wanted to explore opportunities to go bigger"

Esports.gg had the opportunity to speak to representatives of EA during ALGS Split 2 Playoffs in London about the upcoming ALGS Champs 2023. We asked what was the motivation behind the change of venue.

"Over the last Split we've seen so much momentum in terms of engagement and viewership," said Jasmine Chiang, Apex Legends' Global Sr. Brand Marketing Manager.

"We're sold out for the final day [of Split 2], and we wanted to explore opportunities to go bigger, add more space, as well as potential for more activations with our teams, community and brand partners. Resorts World is really a great opportunity to maximise that."

EA introduced several new fan activations at Split 2 playoffs in London, including player meet & greets, team merch booths and a WD_Black gaming bus outside the venue. EA's Jasmine Chiang said the goal was to "blow that up even bigger" for ALGS Champs.

The ALGS Champs will coincide with the Insomnia Gaming Festival taking place at the LEC in Birmingham from September 7 to 10.

"ALGS Champs will be happening just down the road from Insomnia, known as the UK's biggest gaming festival, so we're really hoping to make this THE biggest weekend of gaming in the UK," added Jasmine Chiang.

"We're really excited. I've been to every Apex event ALGS has ever hosted and I really think this is going to be the best event we've ever had 100%," said Monica Dinsmore, EA's Senior Director, Esports Brand & Marketing.

"We want to keep fueling that momentum and providing more opportunities for the ALGS to grow. We're already pushing the boundaries, but we feel this will be an unlock that catapults us."
