The League of Legends ninja fits the fast-paced fights of 2XKO really well — Akali steps even beyond the splashy tag-team mayhem with her speed and a variety of rushdown options.
As a fighting game character, Akali has great potential for overwhelming her opponents with tricky movement and quick attacks. She is a ninja, a rogue assassin. The 2XKO community is really hyped about getting Akali as the next playable champion.
Akali joins 2XKO on April 7. She becomes the 13th character, which is a step in the right direction — for a 2v2 game, we certainly need more fighters.
However, the excitement among players is not limited to just the increased roster. Akali promises mixup options to open up opponents and then deal great damage after tagging the ninja’s teammates.
Akali’s gameplay in 2XKO
Riot Games started revealing the moveset of Akali with a splashy gameplay trailer.
The video shows close-to-mid-range normals to pressure opponents, cross-up attacks to hit them from both sides, tricky air movement with a delay before landing, and smoke bombs to empower Akali’s abilities.
Teleportation is the signature feature of Akali gameplay in 2XKO. Combined with smoke movement through opponents, it becomes an extremely dangerous mix-up tool.
Throwing kunai and using the kama scythe effectively extends attack distance for Akali.
How to play Akali: Beginner’s guide
The official guide clearly states the pros and cons of playing Akali.
- She is the fastest champion in 2XKO: of the rushdown archetype, with a plethora of mix-up options.
- Akali has one of the lowest health levels in the game.
Double jump and wall jump open interesting movement possibilities for offense and defense. Jumping out of the corner is a nice ability indeed.Teleport: With 3S2, Akali teleports forward, which is scary for opponents. With 2S2, Akali remains in the same spot, and it’s super confusing to deal with.
Specials and Super
Akali uses two types of weapons during 2XKO fights. They are linked to her Specials.
S1 is for kunai attacks. In neutral, Akali rushes towards her opponent and can land a follow-up on hit. 2S1 is throwing kunai, so it is a nice spacing tool and a check from a distance.
S2 is for the hand scythe, kama. You can attack in neutral and activate the Twilight Shroud on hit. Hold the S2 button for the smoke only.
As for Supers, Akali has a full-screen projectile (S1+L/M/H) and a command grab (S2+L/M/H). Both options are terrifying in the kit of a quick rushdown character!
Twilight Shroud
In a way, this smoke can be compared to the drinking mechanic of Jamie in Street Fighter 6 or Jealous Rage of A.B.A in Guilty Gear Strive.
Akali throws the smoke bomb with some attacks, and being within Twilight Shroud improves her moves and gives them different properties.
For example, Akali can walk through her opponents while in the smoke and cancel teleport into each other.

2XKO community is really excited about Akali
The most positive reaction of 2XKO players is about Akali’s mix-up abilities. The game is a lot about opening your opponents up, as the built-in combo techniques are already sufficient for great damage — even to the touch of death (TOD) level.
Akali can find a lot of use with her movement and teleportation. Her assists play the same role, as she can break the defense and let the point character proceed with the damage. Extending combos also feels quite real.
On top of this, Akali is a pretty straightforward fighter. Her moveset is deep with available options, but it is not overcomplicated. In general, Akali is a great 2XKO character. She is fun to play for casual players, and she has nice potential in professional hands.
