If you want to be the most powerful Descendant around, you’ll need to level up your weapons in The First Descendant.
Outside of your abilities, weapons are your best friend in terms of dealing damage and taking out the Vulgus. In The First Descendant, you can level up your weapons as your Descendant levels up, keeping them matching in power and usefulness.
Powering up and enhancing your weaponry is easy, but it isn't necessarily explained in the game. Let's go over it together.
How to get weapons in The First Descendant
Firstly, you need to get your hands on some guns. You'll pick them up just about everywhere you go, but ground loot isn't the only way to obtain them. Here's how you can add weapons to your inventory in The First Descendant:
- Pick up weapons off the ground
- Earn weapons as rewards from missions, quests, and Void Intercept battles
- Get weapons and Ultimate Weapons through the Battle Pass
- Research and craft weapons with Anais
- Check your Lost and Found for any weapon rewards missed due to a full inventory

What is weapon Proficiency?
You may have looked your weapons in your inventory and saw a Proficiency level. This is different than the basic level of your weapon in The First Descendant. Think of it as your character level, except for the gun in question.
Proficiency level raises with the amount of EXP earned with that weapon, up to the max of 40 just like your Descendant. This determines the rarity of Modules you can assign to the weapon.
It also comes with the option to prestige it, again like your Descendant. When you hit level 40, you can assign a new Module Socket type and reset the level to 1. It does not affect the basic weapon level and statistics, such as the DPS, though.
