Every Pokémon Pokopia player should know about these tips as soon as possible for a smoother and less grindy gaming experience.

It has been a few days since the release of Pokémon Pokopia, so we have put together a list of the best tips we can share for players who are just starting this life simulation game.

To say the least, the game has lived up to the community’s expectations, featuring gameplay mechanics that are just as addictive as those found in Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, and Minecraft.

At some point, we ran into several challenges that slowed our progress, such as limited resources, tracking down Pokémon with specific specialties, completing certain challenges, and more. To help you avoid the same issues, here are the things that you should do early in the game.

Tip #1: Get lots of lumber

Lumber is arguably the most important material you’ll need when developing your town or settlement. It is the primary ingredient for crafting other essential things, such as furniture, wooden blocks, and outdoor items.

You can obtain lumber all around the starting area, which is called the Withered Wasteland. But if you want to learn the best method to farm lots of lumber, we have a guide on the top lumber farming methods in Pokémon Pokopia.

Tip #2: Water all dried trees you find

At the beginning of the game, you’ll come across plenty of dried trees in your surroundings. As you may already know, using Water Gun revitalizes plants and trees. Watering a dried tree allows it to produce berries, which you can harvest as a food source.

Moreover, once your character learns the move Cut, you can chop those trees down to get small logs, which you can convert into lumber, and also a tree seed that allows you to replant that tree somewhere else.

If you make it a habit to water any trees you’ll find, you’ll be able to complete daily challenges, avoid running out of food, and create almost any furniture that you want.

Tip #3: Even out the terrain

You don’t need to be an expert in urban planning to build your own town in Pokémon Pokopia. That said, turning a barren and desolate land into a livable home for Pokémon takes a lot of work. Your first task is to even out large sections of the town’s terrain.

Flattening the land makes it easier to build habitats that attract wild Pokémon. Some species, such as Flying-type Pokémon, prefer brighter areas, so raising certain parts of your town can help them receive more sunlight.

Rock Smash is your main tool for customizing your town’s landscape, and you can learn it from Hitmonchan. To spawn Hitmonchan, build an Exercise resting spot habitat, which consists of a Punching bag and any type of seat.

Tip #4: Build shaded or underground areas

This tip involves a practice that few Pokémon Pokopia players try at the start of the game.

Pokémon have different preferences for their homes: some prefer bright areas, others thrive in humid or watery locations, and some would rather live in dark caves or shaded fields. To make your town optimal for various types of Pokémon, you need to set up areas that cater to everyone’s ideal habitat.

Rock Smash will once again become your best friend for this task, but creating underground areas can quickly consume a lot of your PP. To keep using Rock Smash, check out our guide on getting food in Pokémon Pokopia.

Tip #5: Look for Drifloon and visit the Dream Islands

As you look around for resources in the Withered Wasteland, try to visit the nearby beaches, and you’ll eventually come across Drifloon, a Pokémon that can bring you to mysterious places known as the Dream Islands.

A Dream Island is packed with resources for you to claim, but you can only visit it once per day and only in exchange for a doll, which you can obtain by completing Drifloon’s request.

Before visiting a Dream Island, make sure your bag is nearly empty (you can still bring a few berries) so you can collect more items while there.

Tip #6: Explore the Withered Wasteland far and wide

You can still farm nearly all resources even if you don’t visit Dream Island. The Withered Wasteland is full of hidden items waiting to be discovered, and you might even stumble upon paths that lead to entirely new areas or find traces of Pokémon.

Tip 7: Use honey to find a missing Pokémon

If you need a Pokémon for a specific purpose, such as building a house or giving it a new home, you might normally have to search the town for it. Instead of walking aimlessly, you can make it appear by using honey.

Apply honey to the missing Pokémon’s habitat, and it should return to that same spot.
