Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia: Which is better in Pokémon GO?

Both Origin Forme Palkia and Dialga are returning to Pokémon GO during the Into the Wild and GO Wild: Global events. Both of these Pokémon are extremely powerful, but with so much to do during these two events which one should you focus your time and resources on?

We've broken down the differences between the two Pokémon, including Raids, PvP and Adventure Effects so you can weigh up which of these two Pokémon to Raid for.

The short answer is both of these Pokémon are very strong in Pokémon GO, especially if they have their signature attacks. However, Origin Forme Palkia is the better choice overall in Pokémon GO. This is because it is significantly stronger in PvP.

However, in an ideal world, you want multiple of both of these Pokémon in your collection to call upon when needed.

Here are both of these two Pokémon put head to head.

Both Origin Forme Dialga and Palkia share a typing in Pokémon GO of Dragon. They then have their own unique second typing. This gives them vastly different weaknesses in Pokémon GO.

The two Pokémon have he following typings:

Both these Pokémon have a range of weaknesses, and resistances, in Pokémon GO.

Origin Forme Dialga has just two weaknesses, to Fighting and Ground-type attacks. It has a huge amount of resistances, boasting damage reduction to no less than ten types of attacks. This includes a double resistance to Grass and Poison-type attacks. Then standard resistances to Bug, Electric, Flying, Normal, Psychic, Rock, Steel and Water-type attacks.

Origin Forme Palkia has less resistances, but the same number of weaknesses. It has a weakness to Dragon and Fairy-type attacks, with a resistance to Steel-type attacks and a double resistance to Fire and Water-type attacks.

Both Origin Forme Dialga and Origin Forme Palkia are good in Pokémon GO PvP, specifically in the Master League. According to PvP Poke, the two Pokémon rank in the following in Master League:

Due to typings, Palkia is better than Dialga in Pokémon GO PvP in either form. Spacial Rend is a big reason why Origin Forme Palkia ranks higher than its standard form.

So, overall Origin Forme Palkia is better for PvP than Origin Forme Dialga.

Moving onto Raids, both of these Origin Forme Pokémon are good Raid Attackers in Pokémon GO.

Origin Forme Palkia is ranked fourth in the Dragon-type category, above Origin Forme Dialga. The only Dragon-type Pokémon more powerful are all Mega Pokémon. That makes Origin Forme Palkia a great addition to your collection.

Origin Forme Palkia ranks worse, but still solidly in the Water-type category placing in 22nd. It isn't a top choice, but if you give it a second move it has some decent flexibility. Importantly, Origin Forme Palkia ranks above Palkia in all categories.

Origin Forme Dialga is highly ranked in the Dragon-type category, placing in eighth. It sits above Rayquaza, and the standard version of Palkia. Excluding Mega and Shadow Pokémon, the only Dragon-type better than Origin Forme Dialga is Origin Forme Palkia.

However, Origin Forme Dialga is a bit more flexible than its counterpart. It ranks fifth in the Steel-type category, above Melmetal and Mega Aggron. Only standard Dialga (barely), Metagross and Dusk Mane Necrozma are better Steel-type Raid attackers in Pokémon GO.

Both of these Origin Forme Pokémon in Pokémon GO have their own Adventure Effects, if you are lucky enough to get their signature Charged Attacks. For Dialga, that is Roar of Time and for Palkia that is Spacial Rend.

Both of these Adventure Effects are extremely useful. However, which one is better is partially dependent on your playstyle and priorities.

Origin Forme Palkia's Adventure Effect increases the distance that you can see nearby Pokémon. That makes it really useful during events like Pokémon GO Community Days. Especially if you are stuck at home or in the office, or want to run around and shiny check as many Pokémon as possible.

Origin Forme Dialga's Adventure Effect pauses all active timers. This extends your Lucky Eggs, Star Pieces and Incense durations. In itself, this isn't always a great bonus because it costs Dialga Candy and Stardust to activate this Adventure Effect.

Howewer, where Pokémon GO Trainers have found this ability to be really useful is with Daily Adventure Incense. Since the release of the Shiny Galarian Birds, Trainers have been using Roar of Time to use their Adventure Incense for hours at a time.

So, depending on what you're chasing in Pokémon GO will depend which of these is more powerful. You can only have one Adventure Effect active at a time in Pokémon GO.

In conclusion, Palkia is the better of the two Origin Forme Pokémon in Pokémon GO at the moment. It is the better Dragon-type, is better in PvP and also has a more frequently useful Adventure Effect.

However, both of these Pokémon are extremely powerful, extremely useful and ideally you want to have strong IV's of both Dialga and Palkia by the end of Into the Wild and GO Wild Area.
