Is Mega Gallade a good Pokémon to use in Pokémon GO?

Mega Gallade is finally coming to Pokémon GO, initially through the special Raid Day event on January 11. This is one of a ever smaller list Mega Pokémon that are not yet in the game. Other recent Mega Pokémon haven't been that useful to use in the game, but will Mega Gallade be good to use in Pokémon GO?

Now while you cannot use Mega Pokémon in PvP, you can absolutely use Mega Pokémon in Raids. So here is how Mega Gallade stacks up across a range of categories.

Is Mega Gallade a good Pokémon to use in Pokémon GO?

Before diving into Mega Gallade as a Raid Attacker, all Mega Pokémon also all come with bonuses when Mega Evolved. At Mega Level 2, they award 50 XP, 1 extra Candy and a 10% increase to XL Candy chance. At Mega Level 3, that increases to 100 XP, 2 extra Candy and a 25% increase to XL Candy chance.

As a dual-type, Mega Gallade provides those bonuses to Fighting and Psychic-type Pokémon. We do already have a Mega Pokémon that covers that in Mega Medicham.

However, Mega Gallade is significantly stronger than Mega Medicham so this is a significant improvement.

Mega Gallade as a Psychic-type Raid Attacker

Mega Gallade is best in the Psychic-type category, and sits as the fifth best Psychic-type attacker in the game. Notably, it ranks just slightly better than Mega Gardevoir. It is beaten by a few different Pokémon, all of which have been avaliable recently.

Shadow Mewtwo is the best Psychic-type, followed by Mega Alakazam, Mega Latios and then standard Mewtwo.

That said, being the fifth best in a category is still very strong and Mega Gallade is easily a good Psychic-type Pokémon.

Is Mega Gallade a good Fighting-type Raid Attacker in Pokémon GO?

In the Fighting-type category, Mega Gallade is up against stiffer competition. There are a lot of good Fighting-type Pokémon in Pokémon GO, including some good Mega Pokémon too.

Mega Gallade is the eighth best Fighting-type Raid Attacker in Pokémon GO which once again is a very respectable showing. It is outranked by some other easily accessible Pokémon, including standard and Mega Lucario, Mega Heracross, Terrakion and Mega Blaziken. It does beat out the likes of Mega Lopunny, Conkeldurr and Virizion.

Once again, this is still a respectable placement. Especially when Mega Gallade ranks in the top ten of two separate categories.

What about in the Grass-type category?

Mega Gallade also has a Grass-type Charged Attack, so how does it stack up in the Grass-type category? It fares surprisingly well, coming tenth. It beats out Rillaboom, Chesnaight, Tapu Bulu and Meowscarada.

Of course, pure Grass-types like Kartana, Mega Venusaur and Mega Sceptile will still be better options, but Mega Gallade is a surprisingly good option as a Grass-type in Pokémon GO.
