Mega Heracross Pokémon GO: Weakness and Counters

Take on Mega Heracross.

Mega Heracross will be debuting in Pokémon GO in a Raid Day on April 13, and then will be in Mega Raids until April 25.

Mega Heracross has been long awaited, and is the best Fighting-type and Bug-type Pokémon in the game, at least until we get Mega Lucario.

That means that the Mega Heracross Raid Day, and Mega Raids is well worth battling. There will also be a paid event ticket, granting eight additional raid passes, as well as increased Rare Candy XL chances plus bonus XP and Stardust.

So, what are the things you need to know before heading out to take this Pokémon down?

Best Mega Heracross counters in Pokémon GO:

Mega Heracross has a weakness to Fairy, Fire and Psychic-Pokémon, additionally it has a double weakness to Flying-type Pokémon. That makes Flying-types excellent choices to take this Mega Pokémon down.

In terms of resistances, Mega Heracross is resistant to Bug, Dark, Fighting, Grass and Ground-types.

With that in mind, here are the best Mega Heracross counters in Pokémon GO.

Mega Rayquaza
Air Slash & Dragon Ascent
Yveltal
Gust & Oblivion Wing
Incarnate Forme Enamorus
Fairy Wind & Fly
Mega Pidgeot
Gust & Brave Bird
Moltres
Wing Attack & Sky Attack
Therian Forme Enamorus
Fairy Wind & Fly
Staraptor
Gust & Fly
Honchkrow
Peck & Sky Attack
Braviary
Air Slash & Fly
Therian Forme Tornadus
Gust & Bleakwind Storm
Hisuian Braviary
Air Slash & Fly
Zapdos
Thunder Shock & Drill Peck

Thanks to Mega Heracross having a double weakness to Flying-type Pokémon gathering a strong team to battle this raid isn't too difficult. Pokémon like Staraptor and Honchkrow are very common, and shouldn't be any issue to track down.

Mega Rayquaza is by far and away the best choice for this Raid. Not only is this Pokémon the single most powerful Pokémon in the game, but it has the super strong Flying-type move Dragon Ascent. If you have a good Mega (or even non Mega) Rayquaza with Dragon Ascent, there is no better choice to take on Mega Heracross.

Mega Evolutions to get you more Heracross candy in Pokémon GO

Mega Evolutions can help you get more candy and XL candy with every catch. Having a mega level 3 active that boosts candy for Bug or Fighting-types will give you an extra 2 candy per catch, as well as a 25% bonus to your XL candy chance.

Here are the Pokémon you can Mega Evolve to get more Heracross candy after your Raid:

  • Beedrill
  • Pinsir
  • Scizor
  • Heracross
  • Blaziken
  • Medicham
  • Lopunny

How many trainers do I need to beat Mega Heracross in Pokémon GO?

Mega Heracross will require at least two trainers at the very minimum, but a group of 3-4 is better for higher level trainers. Don't forget to use Party Play to increase your attack damage in Raids.

Lower level trainers should be looking at a group of at least five. The faster you complete a Mega Heracross Raid, the more Mega Energy you will get at the end.

With Mega Heracross being a really powerful Mega Pokémon, that 100% IV will allow you to power Heracross up all the way to almost 5.5k CP (if you have the candy and candy XL!)

So, here are the CP values to keep an eye out for after your Mega Heracross Raid:
