It’s mandatory for every Helldivers 2 player on Steam.

All Helldivers 2 players on Steam will have to create a PlayStation Network (PSN) account to keep playing the game, the publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on May 3.

This reasonably caused quite a stir in the Helldivers 2 community as the game launched in February and Steam players didn't have to create a PSN account until now. However, connecting the Steam and PSN accounts will be a mandatory step for new and current players, so you might as well do it right now.

Update May 6: Steam players no longer need to connect their account to PSN to keep playing Helldivers 2, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced on May 5 via a post on X.

Helldivers 2: How to connect a PSN account to Steam

Linking an existing PSN account to Steam

  1. Open Helldivers 2 on Steam and go to the Settings menu.
  2. Enter your PSD ID and password in the PSN sign-in option.
  3. Click confirm.

Creating a new PSN account and linking it to Steam

  1. In case you don't have a PSN account yet, head to PlayStation's website and click "Create New Account."
  2. You'll have to fill in a bunch of details in this next step, including your region, language, date of birthday, username, and password to set up your new account.
  3. Open Helldivers 2 on Steam and go to the Settings menu.
  4. Enter your PSD ID and password in the PSN sign-in option.
  5. Click confirm.

Sony had set different rules for new and current Helldivers 2 players. All new players would need to connect their Steam account to a PSN account from May 6 onwards. As for current players, this step would be mandatory from June 4 onwards until Sony backtracked from the decision.
