If you just can’t wait for your friends to enlist, you can play Helldivers 2 solo, which is the least recommended method.
It is absolutely not recommended, but you certainly can. The game is all about teamwork, communication, and the ensuing satirical hilarity as you fight the good fight for Democracy. If you want to check it out on your own, however, we'll walk you through how.

How to play Helldivers 2 solo
You won't make it far on the higher difficulties alone. That's just a fact. As soon as you drop in, enemies will swarm you, not giving you a second to even breathe. The lower difficulties is where you'll stand a better chance by yourself.
There's no dedicated single-player mode, or even a campaign in Helldivers 2, but for those who want to play solo, you've just got to tweak some lobby settings. Follow these steps:
- Open the game settings section and navigate to the Options tab
- Toggle Matchmaking Privacy to Friends Only and apply the change
- Head to the Galactic War table, pick a difficulty, and select a mission
- Lower into the Hellpod and choose your loadout
- Ready up, drop onto the planet, and you can play the Helldivers 2 mission solo
You don't necessarily have to change Matchmaking Privacy, but this ensures no one will join your game via the Quickplay option. You can start a solo mission in Helldivers 2 without updating it. Others may join mid-mission, however.
With Matchmaking Privacy set to Friends Only, you can appear offline so your friends can't even join. Or just tell them to bug off as you go to war in Helldivers 2 as a solo unit. May Democracy watch over you, Helldiver.
