Is Carry Forward coming to Black Ops 7? It’s complicated

Carry Forward is coming to Black Ops 7, but not in the traditional fashion.

In today's Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live, Activision revealed that the Carry Forward would be returning this year. However, there are some major caveats when it comes to how Carry Forward is going to work this time around.

The Carry Forward feature has been a polarizing one in Call of Duty ever since it was introduced between Modern Warfare II and Modern Warfare III in 2023. The feature saw all weapons and cosmetics from MWII, including blueprints, Operator skins, and calling cards/emblems/stickers/etc, be transferred to MWIII if the player used the same Activision account for both games. While this was great for fans who spent a lot of money on skins or unlocked some hard-earned camos, it also made MWIII feel quite bloated with content.

Fortunately, it seems Activision has found a happy medium with Carry Forward in Black Ops 7, and you can read about how it's going to be handled in the guide below.

Carry Forward will be available in Black Ops 7, but not at the start

Activision revealed that Carry Forward would not be coming to BO7 when it launches on Nov. 14. This means that when you boot up BO7 at launch, all of the weapons, Operators, and cosmetics from BO6 will not going to be available. The only aspect of BO6 that will carry over to BO7 is Double XP Tokens and Zombies Gobblegums, which are two incredibly useful items players can use to jumpstart their account.

Aside from those two consumable items, though, BO7 will be an entirely new game from the start. This will remain true all the way up until the Season 1 update, which is likely going to arrive sometime in early December 2025. Activision stated that when Season 1 arrives, Carry Forward will then make its way to the game.

The developers didn't offer a concrete explanation about why they're doing it this way, but we can surmise that Warzone plays a major role in the decision. With Season 1 will also come the BO7/Warzone integration, and Carry Forward should be a much larger factor in Warzone than it will be in multiplayer or Zombies. So, Activision seems to be waiting until Warzone is integrated to make all of the Carry Forward content from BO6 available to players.

What content is included with the Carry Forward in BO7?

Speaking of the content from Carry Forward, what can players expect when Season 1 begins? Activision has stated that mostly all of the content from Black Ops 6 will be available in BO7.

This includes the following:

  • Weapons and Weapon Blueprints
  • Black Ops 6 camos (but only usable on BO6 weapons)
  • Operators and Operator skins

This is either an extremely popular or unpopular decision based on how you feel about the content in BO6. However, it appears Season 1 will see the arrival of plenty of BO6 content into both BO7 and Warzone.
