Team Spirit's demise in the Stockholm Major will be the last time the current roster represents the organisation on LAN. The CIS organisation announced moments ago on Twitter, that they have decided to rebuild Team Spirit CS:GO roster.

The current Team Spirit CS:GO roster:

  • Viktor "somedieyoung" Orudzhev
  • Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov (IGL)
  • Nikolay "mir" Bityukov
  • Boris "magixx" Vorobyev
  • Abdulkhalik "degster" Gasanov

CIS organisation to now enter a "rebuilding phase" for their CS:GO team

"Our CS:GO project that lasted 2.5 years will come to an end after Dreamhack Open November. It is safe to say that its potential wasn't fully achieved. We have an understanding of the reasons behind it, but I am now prepared to share them just yet," said Nikita "Cheshir" Chukalin, CEO of Team Spirit.

The Team Spirit CEO went on to say that they will now enter a "rebuilding phase", opening up the potential for an exciting, new roster to represent the TI-Champion winning organisation.

"I ask the fans and the CS:GO community to share my respect for the players and coaches that gave us so many happy memories. They need it right now," said Mr Chukalin.

Team Spirit's final moments as a roster on LAN came at the Stockholm Major

Always treading the line between an elite squad and a mediocre one, the Team Spirit CS:GO roster found themselves as competitive dark horses at the beginning of 2021. But following abysmal results at IEM Cologne, EPL Season 14, IEM Fall, and failing to qualify for IEM Winter, it really became last chance saloon for the CIS squad heading into the Stockholm Major.

Beginning in the Challengers portion of the coveted event of the year, a rematch of their IEM Cologne elimination series against FaZe was on the cards. However, falling to the international squad led Spirit to a fight against the budding Brazilians of GODSENT.

The push to the Legends stage continued against TYLOO and domination against the Asians left Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov’s men in pole position to finally break through. Heading into the 2-1 matchup, Team Spirit were forced to clash with their domestic rivals of Virtus.Pro and similar to IEM Katowice, could not compete against the patient and brooding CIS T-sides.

To decide their Major fate, a charged up Astralis waited in the wings. Before things could truly heat up for Spirit, Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander was a man possessed and stole away the final spot at the Legends stage.

Dreamhack Open November to be the roster's final appearance

The exit at the Stockholm Major appears to be the straw that broke the organization’s back. Rather than a retooling of the roster, Team Spirit will instead look to build a new one from scratch.

The fates of the soon-to-be former Team Spirit CS:GO roster still remains up in the air, but Abdul “degster” Gasanov and Nikolay “mir” Bityukov continued to be standout performers for the CIS roster regardless of their poor results and will remain pivotal pieces heading into the quickly approaching off-season.

The last dance of Team Spirit will be at DreamHack Open November, which will also be the final event with the DreamHack moniker being used as well. For more updates on the future of the chopper-led squad and the brand-new Spirit roster, stay tuned to esports.gg.
