FC Schalke 04 announced they are selling their LEC franchise spot to Swiss organization Team BDS for a record $31.5m dollars.

Schalke 04 will finish out the Summer Split 2021

After the German club was relegated from the Bundesliga, Schalke 04 was forced to part with high value assets to maintain financial stability. The team was rumored to be selling the slot earlier this month, and those rumors are finally realized.

In a statement on Twitter, Schalke announced the sale of the slot to Swiss organization Team BDS effective in 2022. With a sale price of €26.5 million, Schalke are the first League organization to sell their franchise spot. The team highlighted their rich history and expressed support for the organization's final Summer Split in League of Legends.

Schalke 04 received an outpouring of love from rival organizations and will certainly be missed in the LEC next year.

Team BDS arrive in the LEC

The Swiss organization announced today that they will be moving into the LEC next year. For those unaware, BDS are a rapidly growing European organization known for their Rocket League and Valorant rosters. Their Rocket League squad ran roughshod over the rest of Europe for most of the year until they were stunned by Team Vitality in the RLCS X European finals.

Starting from 2022 Spring Split, BDS will operate as LEC core member for an indefinite period. It is a great honor for us to have been chosen to be the successor of such a prestigious organization as FC Schalke 04.

BDS currently feature a team in the LFL and the organization recommitted itself to growing semi professional League of Legends. Despite being a Swiss organization based in Geneva, BDS primarily features French rosters in other titles. It will be interesting to see if BDS tries to keep a franchise star from Schalke or if the org will try and create a brand new roster from scratch.
