Fortnite Chapter 5 is here, and many have a lot to say about the new season. Here is our exact thoughts.

Fortnite Chapter 5 was officially released on December 3, 2023, and many have different opinions on the new chapter and its mechanics and more.

Here is a complete review of Fortnite Chapter 5.

Reviewing every aspect of Fortnite Chapter 5

The new chapter gave players quite a few new features to play around with. While some have been getting quite a bit of praise from the community, a few other new features have been getting slammed on by players.

Here is a review of every new feature added in Fortnite Chapter 5.

Weapon mods

Weapon mods are a big step forward for Fortnite. Players are now able to pick up weapons with different attachments, making the loot pool have a much bigger variety to choose from.

Players can also find mod benches that allow them to enhance their weapons specifically how they want.

So far, the new weapon mods feature has been extremely well received. One thing that is nice is that players cannot just pick up random attachments off the ground. You have to actually claim a POI before being able to access a Mod Bench.

The new weapon mods feature comes with a risk, but a high reward, and is a great addition to Fortnite.

The Medallion

The Medallion is a special item that players can acquire after taking out a few different bosses. It makes sure the holder always has full shield, making it extremely useful. Sounds pretty OP, right?

To combat those crazy stats, the Medallion also shows your location on the map, making it easy for players to hunt you down. With that feature in mind, the Medallion is a great addition to the game. Also, in team modes, only one Medallion is given to the team, so players must switch between who holds it if they want to heal everyone.

The Medallion is overall a great addition to Fortnite's newest chapter.

The map and locations

Fortnite's new map seems to be modeled after a country such as Italy. With many types of Mediterranean-styled houses and vineyards placed all throughout the island. While this could be attributed to many other countries, the map also has a large mountain biome covered in snow, making us believe it is modeled after the Italian Alps.

While the map seems a little small, the locations are quite unique. Still, though, the amount of loot on the island seems to be lacking, which is something that could be improved.

Overall, the map is great and the locations are unique, but the game could use a bit more loot.

Movement

The new movement mechanics is perhaps the most controversial addition to Fortnite Chapter 5. While some of these mechanics are quite unique, many are upset about a few changes.

While players can now hurdle easier over objects and climb structures like they were King Kong, they unfortunately cannot run as fast. This is a big change, as it hinders players' ability to build fight like they could in preview chapters.

The fact of the matter is, Fortnite stands out due to its building mechanics. Changing the movement upsets this notion and has made many players speak out against the new change.

Overall, the movement definitely needs an adjustment, but some factors of it are still fun to use.

Weapons

With every new chapter and season, Fortnite always makes sure to add some new weapons. This season is no different, as the game has added quite a few new guns for players to utilize.

Shotguns have always played a major part in the Fortnite ecosystem. The game's new shotguns though are not the greatest. The Hammer Pump Shotgun is easily the strongest but has a bit of a delay compared to the previous pump.

The Frenzy Auto Shotgun is a bit too slow to be put up there with the greats, such as the Tactical Shotgun. Still, though, with the right attachments, both of these shotguns can become quite useful.

The new Reaper Sniper Rifle is a huge addition to the game, though. With three shots in its magazine and multiple different scopes that are attachable, this gun does over 200 damage in headshots no matter what rarity you have.

The ARs are great, and the recoil is easily compatible with the correct attachments.

Overall, the new chapter's weapons could be better, but are nothing to really complain about. It will be interesting to see what the meta is once competitive starts up.
