Mandatory players win WoW MDI The War Within Group B

Between Nov. 8 and Nov. 10, this group of WoW teams pushed keystones to the limit, and Mandatory players were unstoppable in the upper bracket. They bested Les Bros Canteurs 2-0 before also sweeping Ducks Can Fly and Holy Moly. When Holy Moly climbed back up for a revenge match, Mandatory took home the gold by going 3-2.

A standout moment was the team reclaiming their record from Holy Moly for the fastest dungeon run in MDI history. Necrotic Wake was completed in just 7 minutes and 40 seconds. Check out the moment below!

This victory not only earned them the lion's share of the $30,000 USD prize pool, but also a place in the WoW MDI The War Within Global Finals. Of course, since Holy Moly and Ducks Can Fly placed second and third respectively, they advanced to the Global Finals as well.

Hopeful and Stove talk WoW MDI The War Within Group B

After the esports action, Mandatory players Hopeful and Stove shared their thoughts in a post-match interview. They talked about reclaiming the world record for Necrotic Wake, what they did to prepare for it, and more.

"I was totally confident we could easily get it back," Hopeful said. "I mean, doing the run and doing practice runs, we were even quicker than what we showed today, so I was pretty confident when we were doing it."

Meanwhile, Stove revealed that Mandatory wasn't initially prepared for that record-breaking Necrotic Wake gameplay. However, after observing Holy Moly, they changed up their strategy and spent the night refining it.

"Well, to be completely honest, we did not have that route prepared," Stove said. "We saw it from Holy Moly and we were like, 'Yeah, we have this other comp prepared,' which we thought we were pretty fast with, but then the route made a little bit more sense [...] so we kind of went overnight and went over it. And we got really sick times in practice, so we were very confident coming into today."

Hopeful then noted that during practice, he played around five different specs, which was a significant departure from his usual focus on playing only mage in previous tournaments. He added that it was an interesting learning curve.

Mandatory on the WoW MDI The War Within Global Finals

As for parting words, Stove said that Perplexed and Holy Moly are the teams to watch out for in the WoW MDI The War Within Global Finals.

"There's two really good teams that I really think are going to be our main competition," Stove said. "I think it's Perplexed and it's going to be Holy Moly. Holy Moly —  they played insane. I knew that this team is going to be good. I know all of the players on the roster, and as soon as I saw that roster, I was like, 'These guys are going to blast.' I was sure of them. So they definitely proved me right. And I think they're going to do even better going into Globals. And [the] same with Perplexed. They played really solid in their group, and I think they're going to be even better for Globals."
