Clicking buttons is not easy.
Valorant Patch 5.08 introduced several changes to the in-game UI. However, these changes were not well-received by the community. In many cases, they added an extra step for players to navigate through the menu, impacting the ease of use. In a statement, Riot devs have now confirmed they will be simplifying the user experience in Valorant patch 5.10.
These initial changes in Patch 5.08 were the first step in an iterative process. More information on that here! that looks to you first for where to take it next. What we are seeing is that maybe the updated navigation scheme adds a few more steps than you'd like. For now, we are planning on a change for Patch 5.10 that will restore most of the more convenient one-click access to menus around the game until we can work to build the best long term navigation update.
The updated UX design post patch 5.08 meant users often had to click twice for what used to take a single click. Most notably, finding a new match often requires users to go back to the home page, click Play and then choose their game mode and click start. The multi-step process is in stark contrast to previous versions when users could simply click Play and then click start.
The new update also does not have memory of a user’s last played game mode, which means those not playing unrated have to choose their game mode every time they find a match.
Why did Riot Games change the in-game menu navigation?
One of the reasons for bringing changes to the menu is if they wanted to add more features in-game. With Riot clearly focused on adding features such as replays, solo queue and more, having a menu that is capable of handling additional features is important.
