LOUD vs EDward Gaming - Two fan-favorites, but one faces elimination

This is probably the last series many VALORANT fans expected to be an elimination match. Both of these teams have run roughshod over their respective regions for years. But when it comes to Masters Madrid, they've let another team get the best of them.

LOUD fell to Gen.G on Day 1 in a very tight 2:1 contest. They bounced back against FunPlus Phoenix, but that still leaves them one loss away from going home. And they'll have to survive against another team from VCT China.

For EDward Gaming, they took a statement victory over Paper Rex on Day 2. Then they loss to the same team that gave LOUD their first loss, Gen.G of VCT Pacific. LOUD is their first taste of VCT Americas this season, however, so what happens next is anyone's guess.

LOUD vs EDward Gaming - Masters Madrid Swiss Stage recap

Read on for a recap and clip highlights of the series.

Map 1: Icebox

LOUD made quick work of EDG in the pistol round. They only lost one player in the following round to get their second. Unable to convert the bonus, however, gave EDG a their first. EDG could have had another, but a 1v1 victory by tuyz prevented that.

And from there, LOUD kept rolling. Through two timeouts and seven total rounds, EDG could not manage another. The Brazilian team was ensuring success early on. Even with a 4K from Smoggy, LOUD held the post-plant and forced a save to get another round. The entire first half was a LOUD beatdown.

The second half pistol round went to EDward Gaming. That was only their second of the entire map. A huge Thrifty by LOUD is what came next, sending them to map point. They initiated a retake on A Site with lowly weaponry and made it work.

The next round saw Cauanzin mow down some players in mid with an Odin. As EDG rotated back over to A, tuyZ flanked while Less waited patiently. EDG got the Spike down, but the pressure of LOUD's flank easily shut them down. And LOUD decimated EDG.

Map 2: Sunset

Another pistol goes to LOUD. The second round of Sunset was a Thrifty for EDward Gaming, managing to secure a post-plant scenario and get on the board. And while they got a second much sooner than they did on Icebox, LOUD wasted no time in taking the lead.

A big 3K stop from tuyZ shut down any chance of EDG planting the Spike and gaining momentum. LOUD streamrolled through EDG yet again, which was cemented by another 3K. This time by the Phoenix of qck. It wasn't as bad as the first map, but still a 9:3 lead at the half.

After halftime, LOUD easily got their round count to double digits. A fast plant on A Site secured them the pistol round. EDG had no choice but to buy some weapons to try and get back into this. It did not work, and put their economy on the brink as LOUD got to 11.

Even with solid positioning, EDward Gaming could not prevent LOUD from reaching map and series point. This saw tuyZ push out of a smoke multiple times to net some wild kills. And that's that. LOUD massacred EDG and eliminated them from Masters Madrid.
