G2 Esports vs EDG: The next crown

G2 and EDG will face each other for the second time ever after last year's VALORANT Champions. In August, EDG lost against G2 by going 2-1 with close games that ended up delaying EDG's path to victory. However, G2's momentum didn’t last long since the team lost to Leviatán by 2-0, leading them to the Lower Bracket where they ended up getting eliminated by Fnatic.

On the other side, EDG saw the light within the darkness and brought happiness to China — and a trophy. In a thrilling match against Team Heretics, everything was decided on the fifth map with a victory they would never forget. This triumph marked a historic moment, as EDward Gaming became the first Chinese team to win an international VALORANT Championship. Will EDG repeat that success in a rematch?

G2 vs EDG: Match recap

Check out this section after the games to see the highlights of each map played.

Map 1: Pearl

EDG started pretty strong with a win in the pistol round. The champions came with all the confidence possible into the first rounds with an incredible performance. Their boldness was getting them results and an advantage throughout the first half of map one. In a round where G2 Esports hopes for some proximity to EDG, CHICHOO just clutches the round in a perfectly executed 1v3.

But G2 didn't give it up so easily. Slowly, they were earning round after round, taking advantage of EDG's errors, and equalizing the score before the second half. There is no better word than "chaos" to describe the second half from both teams, everything was so fast, chaotic, and intense. Tejo's impact as a character in this game was unbelievable.

What an intense first map from both teams. An incredible match for fans of VALORANT to watch. Either team deserved to win. In a confused last round, EDG was able to take the flank's control and take the game to overtime. G2 handled the first overtime round perfectly, but EDG was hungry for that victory. The Chinese team even won the first round, but G2 cleaned the second one with an incredible round from jawgemo. What a crazy match!

Even G2 coaches were unbelievers. The game seemed to never end with both teams fighting back to back. If you're a fan of either one of these teams, you must watch your health because this game was breathtaking. In the end, G2 Esports was able to win the first map!

Map 2: Bind

Once again, EDG starts solid and wins the pistol round. EDG came back to the game with a different personality and confidence, winning rounds with solid and destructive performances. What a great start from the Chinese team. The VALORANT Champions 2024 winners didn't let the first loss shake their will to make this second map theirs.

What a messy first half. But this was EDG's map choice, they were simply destroying the first half. What a control, they cleaned G2 Esports so easily in their attempts to enter both sites. In the opportunity to get closer, G2 didn't waste it before entering the second half. Four out of four pistols for EDG, what a great start. The patience and discipline from EDG in their entries made the game even more stressful for the fans. G2's stinger was just crazy!

EDG started strong, but G2 was starting to gain some important rounds and decreasing their distance in the score. With an incredible round from JonahP, G2 won another round, but the next round was a show of lineups from EDG that granted them a clean victory. Their post-past was just amazing. They were so close to winning the second map.

EDG came totally different from the first map and that attitude was enough to avoid the same result as the first map. And we're going to the third map!

Map 3: Fracture

The third game had everything to keep going with absolute cinema in the Masters Bangkok arena. EDG, once again, won the pistol round with crazy shots. After an amazing round from EDG and cleaning a round in a few seconds, G2 Esports called out for a time-out to reset and recover after a 4-0. EDG was just built differently, it didn't seem like the same team as the first map. They came with another power from the first loss.

The first half was just a stomp from EDG. G2 Esports was finally able to win a round and breathe for a while, but that comfort didn't last for much. At this point, EDG was just bullying them. They were cooking this map. EDG was haunting their prey. Not a pistol round was lost in the three matches, not even a chance. However, G2 Esports was trying to come slowly back to the game.

Their efforts were not enough to change their destiny. EDward Gaming was qualified for the VALORANT Masters Bangkok 2025 Playoffs. What an incredible series!
