G2 Esports vs Team Heretics - Is the third time the charm for the EMEA team?

G2 Esports and Team Heretics have faced off twice at VCT Masters Shanghai already. Both teams have proven to be the best of their region, as they are the only ones remaining from Americas and EMEA.

Now, TH will have to prove they've figured out how G2 plays. They say the third time is the charm, so Team Heretics better hope that's the case.

In the Swiss Stage and Upper Bracket Semifinals, G2 defeated them 2:1. The Americas team is coming off of a loss while TH sent 100 Thieves packing, however. That momentum could make the difference.

G2 Esports vs Team Heretics - VCT Masters Shanghai Lower Final recap

When this best-of-five series begins, look for highlights of it here.

Map 1: Bind

A 3K for Wo0t kicks off the first map. They easily took the next and converted their bonus round. Another 3K for Team Heretics, this time by RieNs, kept them rolling. And then more multikill rounds came in for TH, specifically from Wo0T as he just ran all over G2 Esports on attack.

It was six rounds in a row for Heretics, before G2 finally got their first after a valyn 3K and multiple Ultimates. They were unable to string rounds together, but eventually got a second off of a JonahP 4K. A big play by paTiTek shut G2 down, an Ace by Wo0t followed, and as halftime approached, TH had a nice lead.

Wo0t dismantled G2 on the second half pistol round to get Team Heretics to 11. At this point, the EMEA reps were ready to move onto map two, and G2 needed it in hopes of resetting for this series. A nice clutch by paTiTek further cemented it.

Map point was here and then it went. G2 struck B Site and got the plant down, but Wo0T was on the retake. He pushed in, got a better weapon, and took out two. Then sent a Showstopper out for the third and closed Bind in his team's favor, with one of the best performances we've ever seen.

Map 2: Icebox

G2 looked to change their fortune with an opening round pistol victory on Icebox. A second went their way, but every player in the server went down in the end. That caused the teams to go a bit back and forth.

A 3K by RieNs got Team Heretics ahead and caused a G2 timeout. Then paTiTek put down three of his own and TH went up by two. RieNs continued farming kills against G2, with a wild 4K. It was starting to look eerily similar to Bind, but G2 managed to get a couple more rounds than they did on map one.

Wo0T entered halftime on a mission. He took out three while RieNs got the other two and TH hit nine rounds. The next round got them to double digits and it did not look good for G2 Esports once again in this series.

They looked to stop that narrative, as they got their fifth, which was followed by a sixth off the back of a valyn 3K. That could have been the momentum they needed, but Wo0T pulled out the Bladestorm and put a stop to it. Two dominant rounds later and TH moved on, looking for a sweep.

Map 3: Lotus

To no one's surprise, Wo0t took down three for the opening Lotus pistol round. The continued cruising by converting the bonus after a big paTiTek flank. G2 would stop them at four, gaining their first round of map three. That set them up for their second soon after.

A lesser buy from Team Heretics did not prevent them from fighting back. G2 looked ready to keep it close, but an Ace clutch from paTiTek sent the crowd into a frenzy. A Flawless round got TH to eight, and they'd hit nine at the half.

A back and forth pistol round ended with TH on top. That would be the nail in the coffin for G2. No coming back from the jumpstarted economy to start with the second half. Next, a strong defensive hold near A Door took Heretics to 11.

G2 got some money and Ultimates to use, keeping them in it a little longer. The lead was just too much to overcome, though. Map and series point arrived due to a nice 3K by RieNs. A 3K from benjyfishy was the play that would end it, sending Heretics to the Grand Final against Gen.G.
