Evil Geniuses vs 100 Thieves - Win and you're in

Evil Geniuses hasn't played 100 Thieves all that often, to be honest. The rosters are vastly different from all of their previous battles. In fact, Derrek is a former 100T player that now calls EG his home, and of course, Boostio the former world champion IGL with EG is now leading 100T. Storylines!

In all seriousness, though, this is an important match for both teams involved, and even some not involved. Whoever wins gets into the Stage 2 playoffs, which is how they can qualify for Champions. If 100T loses, they can still get to Seoul based on Championship Points.

Right now, SEN is in the lead, with LEV right behind them. If G2 keeps up their winning ways, they could surpass 100T for the third spot. If that happens and all three make it to Champs through playoffs, 100 Thieves is in. They just need to pray for other teams' success if they can't control their own destiny.

Evil Geniuses vs 100 Thieves - VCT Americas Stage 2 recap

Read on for a recap of the series and clips to highlight the action, updated each half.

Map 1: Lotus

A pistol round started things off right for 100 Thieves. They took the next, but the bonus went to Evil Geniuses. That didn't stop the 100T momentum, though, as a nice 3K from Asuna kept them ahead. The EG map pick was going the complete opposite of how they would've liked.

Three from Jawgemo during an EG retake gave them another round, but it would take a lot more than that to catch up. 100 Thieves ensured a lead heading into halftime. That was extended, but a clutch from Apoth gave EG four as sides swapped.

Despite a 3K from Cryo, Apoth finished off another round to give EG the second half pistol. The next helped them close the gap to just two rounds. The bonus round saw a 3K from Boostio, however, to bring 100 Thieves to nine.

EG's attacking side proved to be their strong suit, keeping it tight with the Thieves. 100T managed to reach double digit rounds first, but EG was not finished bringing it back. They tied it at 10 a piece as Jawgemo dominated with Neon. 100T then picked a fight near C, eeiu took down three, and that gave them the strength to push it over the finish line.

Map 2: Bind

Leave it to Apoth to clutch it up with a 3K to give EG the pistol round. As is common, they took the next, but the bonus was all 100 Thieves. A quick 3K from Jawgemo in the first EG full buy put another round on the board. 100T's defense started to work after that, though, keeping it even with a Flawless round.

EG made sure that didn't last long, pushing ahead quite rapidly to get six. A powerful attack on B Site got them to seven and guaranteed a lead at the start of the second half. A disgusting teleport play by supamen as Omen took down three to keep EG rolling.

It was the opposite of Map 1, as EG was up 8:4 as the sides switched. A pistol round 3K for Cryo got 100T's second half started right. They took the next, but EG snagged their bonus to hit nine rounds. The Thieves kept it close, though, reminiscent of how the final stages of Lotus played out.

A crucial round went the way of EG to bring them to 10. The next saw a perfect retake for them to reach 11. Soon enough, Evil Geniuses reached map point and looked to bring us to a third. In a Thrifty round, NaturE stepped up to clutch it and secure the map win.

Map 3: Ascent

100 Thieves took the Map 3 pistol round, hoping for a quick route to the playoffs. The next was theirs, but a 3K from supamen helped EG get their first. 100T stayed ahead for a bit, though supamen notched another multi-kill to keep Evil Geniuses in it.

100 Thieves' attack showed some great post plant awareness to push their lead further. They wasted no time getting themselves in a comfortable position before halftime. Derrek netted two with the Hunter's Fury, but Cryo took out four to give it to 100T. It was 9:3 as they moved to defense.

EG's attack started hot with a pistol round victory. They followed it with another, but they'd need the bonus to prevent 100 Thieves from gaining back their momentum. And for the first time of the entire series, a team converted their bonus round.

While EG pushed back, 100T reached 10 with a very fast Flawless round. That was all 100T needed to make their second half successful. They had zero trouble pushing their round count forward, reaching series point. And just like that, 100T secured playoffs.
