ENVY Demon1 opens up about adapting to the meta, mental health challenges, and his confident return to the VCT Americas 2026 stage.

Maximilian “Demon1” Mazanov’s career has been anything but easy, marked by multiple team changes, periods of inactivity, and personal struggles. Now officially joining ENVY for the 2026 season, Demon1 remains confident in himself and his place on the VCT Americas stage in 2026.

In an interview with esports.gg, he shared his thoughts on the latest meta changes affecting duelists, why he considers Miks an unviable agent, and the mental struggles he has overcome. He also expressed how happy he is to return to the stage, adding that the game has become more enjoyable over the years.

“They killed Yoru”: ENVY Demon1 on the most recent nerfs to duelists

Despite seeing Demon1 more frequently take on the controller role, it’s important not to overlook how dominant he remains as a duelist. In his view, the recent nerfs were great for Waylay, but not nearly as necessary for Yoru. “They killed him. Lowering the teleport to like 15 seacons would have been enough, but getting rid of the second flash was weird. Reyna, Phoenix, Breach, all of them have two flashes. Why is Yoru the only one with one?”

“I believe Waylay is now more balanced, but still the most broken agent in the game. With the double dash, obviously, no one has a double dash, and she can just refract away without punishment, so I think she is really strong,” ENVY Demon1 commented on the most recent nerfs to Waylay, which changed her Saturate ability from Instant to Equip.

The player believes the teams will still run her in their compositions, despite the nerfs. “I think there’s a little bit more versatility to what agents you can play now,” he explained. “You can go for double initiators or double controllers. It opens up more possibilities instead of everyone running the same composition. You can play whatever because, at the end of the day, the better team will win.”

Competitively, Demon1 has only played Yoru once in his career, when he played for Leviatán. As for Waylay, he has never played the agent on the stage.

Miks release

As for the most recent agent, Miks, Demon1 does not see him as an option in VCT Americas. “That guy is trash. I don’t even know what he does. He is just a mix of a lot of things,” he laughed. “There is no point in playing that agent, I don’t think he is good at all. I saw DRG playing him earlier, but they got 2-0. I don’t think anyone in America is going to be playing that character.”

Demon1 was part of Dragon Ranger Gaming (DRG) in September 2025, when the team qualified for the VALORANT Champions, and one of the team members was unable to travel to Paris for the event. The player still keeps in contact with the team. “I’ve spoken to them on the call a month ago again,” he added.

Ahead of the VCT Americas 2026: Stage 1, ENVY Demon1 has not been changing much in his strategy, but he believes the game now feels more enjoyable and playable. “I would say the game is more fun now.”

How have the career changes impacted Demon1’s mental health?

Since his debut with Evil Geniuses in 2023, all eyes have been on Demon1 as one of the scene’s most promising talents. After securing a Champions title, he went on to join NRG, but a lack of strong results led him to explore new opportunities. He then moved to Leviatán, where he spent a year competing.

By May 2025, Demon1 found himself inactive, later returning to the international stage with DRG as a substitute during Champions 2025. Without a permanent team, speculation about his future began to grow. He even admitted that he might step away from competitive VALORANT if he didn’t secure a roster spot for the 2026 season.

He briefly joined Cloud9 as a stand-in for OXY during a difficult personal time. A month later, Demon1 signed with ENVY, securing a contract through the 2026 season and finally regaining a sense of consistency in his career. All of these changes led many to question his mental state and overall well-being.

On the stage is really the only time I actually put effort and try to show how good I am.

Having fun on the stage

“I needed a lot of mental strength to get through this, but I just keep pushing,” he admitted. “I’m giving it everything I have, and I believe the results will come with time. As for my career, I just hope I heal myself.” Demon1 never stopped being in himself and his talent. “In my head, I deserve to be here, no matter what, and I know I’ll always find my way back here. I’m never going to leave the stage.”

For Demon1, coming back to the stage is all about having fun. “On the stage is really the only time I actually put effort and try to show how good I am. It’s more about a self-goal. I’m here, and there are no excuses for anything. I can just perform and have fun,” he said.

Joining ENVY has been a blast, and Demon1 does not really care about who they are going to play next. “I don’t really have any thoughts on facing players because I really don’t care who I face,” he stated. “I just have to beat them.”

As for the high expectations placed on him, he doesn’t let them weigh too heavily. “The game has changed, and I’ve had to adapt to a lot,” he explained. “It took me a bit longer to adjust, but honestly, I don’t really think about what others expect from me.”

Why should you buy the ENVY bundle? Demon1 tries to convince you!

From 1 to 10, Demon1 has rated the ENVY team bundle with a 100. “I have changed all my setup colors, my mouse to blue, my keyboard to blue, even my headset to a blue RGB,” he laughed. “My background on the streams is also blue, I’m even wearing blue shoes.” If you’re still not convinced, Demon1 gives you some encouragement words.

Hey man, it’s cool. It’s dope. It’s got lightning on it. I think the graphics on the player card are insane and by far the best looking VCT team capsule. You’re going to win all your games, trust me!
